Question Enterprise Activation on BES4

Please Login to Remove!

Hi folks,

I am having an issue at the moment, when I try and activate a BB device (here we have 7730 & 8700 models) and when trying to activate the device, device would stop and display 'Activating'. The following has completed to try and resolve this issue:

Re-set Enterprise Activation password twice.
Deleted and re-created BES4 account.
Created different BES4 account and tried to run Enterprise Activation.

All of the above failed. The only way this was completed was to hard wire the device into the BES4 server and activate it.

Nothing (as far as I can tell, and by what my colleagues within the Systems team have told me) has changed on the BES server.

Anyone come across this one before, and how do we resolve this??

Any help would be great.

Thanks

The most common reason for this problem that I have encountered is a spam filter or similar process that might be blocking the e-mail messages from RIM's servers.

Wireless activation works by having RIM's servers send an e-maili to the address that you specify, which your BES then picks up and contacts the device to begin the activation. If this e-mail is never received by your server, the BES has nothing to work with, and the device will be waiting for nothing.

The most common problem with this is a spam filter that is blocking the messages. If you are using a spam filter and have a quarantine area, you may want to check that, or you can create an exception for these messages. I believe the from address is "ntp##.na.blackberry.net" where ## is a numeric value (ie, 01, 02, etc). If you can just create an exception for *.blackberry.net that would probably be the best.

What carrier are you using? Double check with them that you have a BlackBerry data plan associated to your account. Try sending a test PIN message. If you can, then the issue is probably not carrier related.

Hey Brianemery

I had a similar issue when we had our BES server brought online. Initially it was a licensing issue that we had to sort out (Our SRP ID was a bit whacky), so after we figured that out, We ran intow what you are describing, which was being held up at "activating".

We tried a couple of times to reset and remake the IT Policies, and sure enough, after our fourth attempt of rebuilding the Policy, it started to kick in. We were then able to do OTA and corded synch's and activations. The other thing we also did was install the latest service pack.

If I were you i'd just double check the SRP ID with your carrier, and also check your IT Policies.

Also, which exchange version are you running?

Hope that helps.

Is the problem for all devices, or just a few?
