Default 8700R Won't Dial Voicemail, Suggestions? (Running Telstra)

Please Login to Remove!

Hello, hope someone can help before I give my provider (Rogers) a call regarding this problem. Since I'm running Telstra OS I may have to revert back to the Rogers OS prior to my call. Perhaps Telstra is the cause of my problem.

Here's my problem...

I just added phone service to my BlackBerry plan, and added voicemail also. My voicemail is setup and working fine. However, my BlackBerry won't connect to my voicemail at all. I can't even dial my own number and connect to my voicemail from the dialer app. When I try, it looks like it's connecting, but the call drops and I'm taken back to the dialer screen with no explanation. I've played around with it for a little bit now and I'm stumped. Could it be the Telstra OS that's causing the problem?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated before I call Rogers.

Kindest regards,

JVB

Doubt it. Does it have a speedial? Delete the speedial, and then take the battery out and let it reboot.

See if it repopulates the speed dial W key and then try dialing.

With Rogers (and I think all GSM services) you don't dial your own number to get to voicemail, there is a separate number. Mine is a 416 number even though I live in 519. Call them up and find out what voicemail number you should be using.

Okay, I guess I'll do that then. Does calling the 416 number count as long distance for you?

I haven't noticed that I have been charged. On your bill it will be broken down into Local minutes, Long Distance and Voice Mail. You might get charged long distance for voice mail if you are out of your local calling area. I do believe it counts toward your plan minutes though.

Thanks for the assistance. I can now obtain my voicemail messages from my 8700R! You were right BBSpike, you don't dial your cellular number to access your voicemail if you're calling from your cell.

I wish the initial Rogers rep who activated my phone service had of informed me on how to pick up my voicemail, he told me to just dial my cell number and hit #.

Good to know that it wasn't a problem with my 8700R or Telstra!
