Can a Cingular BB receive text messages with a standard Cingular rate plan + text messaging service, without a Cingular BlackBerry Plan?

I believe that text messages are generally part of the voice plan.
But I am not a Cingular tariff expert.

no. text messages are extra. you can send as much email as you want though.

I am on Cingular in SoCal and text messages are specifically :not: inluded. Since you can burn through tons of messages easily, a TCP chat client (Ramble) works well. I have unlimited every thing and text as an option.

I must getting ripped off. I don't have text messages with my BB data plan. Are they truely included with the $29.99 plan? I don't get any with my $44.99 plan.

With my blackberry unlimited plan with Cingular, I've got 1,000 Txt Messages, in addition to all the normal features included with the BB Unlimited Plan.

I would consider calling up your provider and getting them to 'update' the services on your account, otherwise, however it has been set is how it will remain.

Are you sure you didn't add the 1000 Text Messages option to your voice plan? SMS messaging is not associated with Blackberry Data plans, it is associated with voice plans and is an addon feature. SMS is not data, it does not use the BB Network, it uses the underlying control channel on voice. Check you bill for your features, you might be getting a free addon for 1000 SMS Messages on some special deal, but unless you are special it's not from your BB plan.
