Question Would you believe this?

Please Login to Remove!

Ok, got another 7100t from my admin, and it's been working fine all day with the extended battery. I hate having that battery, but, when we started working on it this morning that was what was available...

Nonetheless, I was about to leave work, and decided to swap the battery with a thin one. Now, we're back to square one, it gets to the white screen with the spinning hour glass. Why? This is my second blackberry, and the same issue.

Am I doing something wrong?

Just a thought but with the 7130 I had from verizon I remember something about the battery needing to be a secure type battery. So the after market batteries would not work. Don't know if this could be your problem but just wanted to throw it out.

Thumbs up Resolution...

...after 30 minutes on the phone with T-Mobile, and talking directly with RIM, ths issue was EBKAC!

Apparently, on the 7100t, you must NOT ever take the battery out without turning the device off first. If you do, when you boot it back up you will get the white screen with a constant spinning hour glass. Funny thing is, T-Mobile told me to take the battery out like this...

Anyway, as per RIM, directly, all ok now. I've even tested it, powered a unit on, then off, removed the battery, put the battery back in the device, powered it on, and within 2 minutes it was at the menu screen...

Thank God for that!

ummm...not wishing to confuse the issue, because you did get up and running again, but I pull the battery on my 7100t without powering it off at least three times a week ( I download a lot of 3rd party aps and themes). I've never had this issue before.

My question is-am I doing damage to my handset by doing this? Can anyone verify this recommendation?

ndub, no you won't damage the BB by doing that. I've done more battery pulls than I care to count and have never had any problems with all 3 of my 7100 series devices (2 7100t's and 1 7105t). It's safe.

To the original poster, try wiping and restoring the device, then an OTA enterprise activation. if that doesn't work, you may have to get another device (I know you're already on the second one but that problem is not related to the battery). Sounds like an application may be to blame for the problem.

I have used both OEM and extended batteries and never had that problem. The spinning hourglass is completely normal after a reboot (less than 5 minutes) or OS upgrade (less than 20 minutes).

I also take my battery out without turning off the power (hard reset) which is perfectly normal also.

...according to RIM, today, the memory gets hung, and the device gets confused, thus the hour glass and white screen. But, if it works for you...

Erica, thanks for the validation on this- just wanted to be sure I wasn't hosing my device while I learn to be a hot shot Blackberry hacker...LOL!

Thanks for the info EricaJ1074. I've tried two devices, done the application loader countless times with T-Mobile / RIM. And, it's the latest software from there site. Funny thing is lastnight we tested it:
1. While on, pulled the battery, then put it back...
2. Powered it on, and it just hung (we waiting over 20 minutes)...
3. Only way to get it to work was to do the application loader again (no extra / third party software) and no backup data either, i.e. a clean install...

part two:
1. Got it back to the main screen, turned it off (properly) and back on...
2. While off, removed the battery and place it back...
3. Unit comes on, hour glass, within 2 minutes it was ready for use...

We tried this same procedure with TWO different devices. Strange, no?

Bottom line is, am happy I can at least use the bloody thing. I spent the weekend talking to T-Mobile and RIm about this to no avail, till we were sent to some 'out there' department at RIM!
