Default Unable to reach Gmail Mobile site

Please Login to Remove!

I wonder if anyone else is having issues accessing the mobile Gmail
site lately. I know there have been some general Gmail server issues lately, but my problems are limited to my Blackberry 7100t and have been going on since Monday (that I've noticed).

I try to access the page, and it spins and spins, eventually returning
one of a list of messages which equal up to the server not being
accessible. Here's a couple:
"The selected server returned an error when attempting to fulfill your
request."
"A communication failure occurred with the selected Mobile Data
Service. The server may be busy, please try again later. If the
problem persists contact your administrator."

Here's what I can confirm:
1. I can access my Gmail box just fine from a PC (eliminating an issue
with my Gmail account itself or mail server).
2. I can access any other website from my Blackberry that I try to get to (eliminating Blackberry/T-Mobile issues).
3. Friends of mine have also been unable to acces the mobile Gmail
site.
4. Just to be safe, I cleared the browser/cookie/history caches from
the Blackberry.

I know people have suggested that the recent Gmail issues have been due
to select Gmail server overload issues, and I'd say that this points to
the same, but why am I always able to access from a PC yet not from my
mobile? Shouldn't it all be the same mail server?

Anyone else having a similar problem? I posted to the official Gmail forums over at Google Groups, but as usual nobody replies. Just trying to gauge the depth of the issue here.

I actully want to update this...

As of now I'm still out here, going on for a full week now. As are my other Blackberry-wielding friends. Yet I finally saw a friend with a non-BB device who has a data plan (Treo 650 w/ Verizon), and he got right to the website.

Is it possible that Google has done something to BB browsers to not allow access? We're talking multiple BB models from multiple carriers.

I normally don't access GMail with by BB Browser. Just tried and it worked just fine, no errors signing in or anything.

I used www.gmail.com, not sure which address you are using. Possible if you use a bookmark, it has changed or the issue is just in your area.

My bookmark is to http://m.gmail.com, which is the mobile site that Google publishes and suggests people use.

I did have the same thought though last week, and tried the straight www.gmail.com address, even though I do know that that URL auto-detects browser type, with the same results. I tried it again this morning, just to be sure some problem hadn't been resolved.

I did also try a forced-HTML-version link that I'd found someone on Google's help pages and had no luck there either.

If I had to guess, this is indeed a selective and random problem with the Gmail servers. It's certainly possible that desktop and mobile access would use two different mail servers while my mail file itself is stored somewhere behind those. Unfortunately, Google's tech support is non-existent (particularly with Gmail technically still being in beta), and their responses are either canned or consist of "if it doesn't work for you, we're very sorry but too bad" and so an actual answer from the source won't happen.

I was getting this error last weekend when I attempted to access the mobile GMail site from my Verizon 7250, but it's working fine today. Seems like a temporary problem on their end.

So it would seem, though I'm still having the issue myself.

I was searching this forum to figure out if anyone else found a solution to getting their gmail forwarded to the BB via the BB Internet Service. I set it up, and got the "congrats, Activiation" msg but the e-mails don't come thru to my handset. Deleted it, tried again still no luck.

My carrier's tech support was clueless on this. From lurking here I guess the work-around is to set the gmail filter to forward it to my BB acct - I'll try that.

While I saw your post (OP), I decided to test it for you and it spun for longer than usual, but I got thru fine using the gmail mobile version. I'm def not a techie so sorry I can't provide any suggestions, but just wanted to let you know so you could determine how wide-spread the problem is/narrow down what it might be.

Good luck, cheers.
