Make sure all the programs have check marks next to them.

4.1 requires a device with 32MB memory or more and bluetooth. Which would be 7250, 7290, 8700, 7100, 7105, 7130, 7100i, 7520, 8707.
4.0.2 is the current OS for 16MB phones.

I have an unlocked T-Mobile 7105t that I use on CellularOne's network, I want to upgrade to the 4.1 OS so that things run better (hopefully), but I'm confused as to what version to install. Should I install the CellularOne version for the 7100g or should I install that HK multilanguage version also for the 7100g? And, when I upgrade to 4.1 will the themes I installed on my BB still be usable?
Thanks.

I have to say I dig the Telstra update and the Zen theme (much better than anything else I've seen out there). Everything went very smoothly on the upgrade, and the phone does in fact seem to work a bit better (volume, primarily).

What do I do? I'm looking for a FAQ or something, I've downloaded like 3 different versions and redownloaded them several times...
Do you think it's something wrong with my computer or something? When I plug the BB into the USB Cradle the computer acknowledges it's there, but I can't like connect or do anything.
If anyone could help I'd really appreciate it.

There's an update that you need to do for IS (iirc, it's somewhere on MS' KB), so start there and search for it.

If Alltel does support EVDO, would there be any other downsides to using the Sprint or Verizon versions? Such as no web browser, or other surprises?

That's the places that have EVDO service. Your account will need to be set up to allow evdo access.

Why different versions of the OS?
I have had my 8700f a week now and I must say I am hooked. I have read a lot about upgrading the OS and have a few questions. Why does BB have so many versions of 4.1? Do you have to unlock the BB before upgrading? And finally does upgrading to Telstra for example, unlock any extra functionality?

RIM writes the OS for carriers to test. They release the ones they want to.

New themes. Since documentation on the different versions is so hard to come by, it's tough to say.

Interesting. I read that some people have lost functionality by upgrading. Is there a list of what network uses what OS version and what each version does or doesn't give you? My network doesn't seem to know a lot about what my BB can do so I was thinking of telling them to sign up to the forum!

7290 Upgrade for Vodafone SA
I am looking for 4.1 upgrade software for the 7290 we use here in South Africa. I tried all the different Vodafone options but none of them will upgrade the version we are using: 7290M_PBr4.0.0_rel234_PL1.8.0.121.
Any help would be appreciated.

You should check with your Cellular Service Provider's web support page and find their Blackberry Downloads page. Most providers host Blackberry firmware upgrades through the Blackberry site, but some (in the US T-Mobile and Verizon) host their own.
The following Google search will find all pages with the words " Software Download" on the blackberry.com web site. Once you click that, search the results for your provider's name:
http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGLJ,GGLJ:2006-06,GGLJ:en&q=Software+Download+site:www%2eblackber ry%2ecom

There is newer software available. CIngular and T-Mobile US both offer v4.1 for the 7290, as do others.
I think you may be missing a step - after downloading the software and installing it onto your desktop, you must locate and delete VENDOR.XML from the PCs C: drive.
Then restart Desktop Manager. You must include that step - deleting vendor.xml.
Good luck.

Mark seems to have pruned the 16Mb models but for anyone interested Bell has released 4.0.2 for the 7750.

All right. I upgraded to 4.1 on my 7290 a few days ago... I have ramble IM, and several IP Relay programs (3rd party operator for deaf) installed. They wont work anymore...
Why isn't there a "compose" icon on my screen anymore I like it better. It's a lot trouble to go to address, click on name, then click on email, then pick the correct email address. seems like a lot of work and trouble to do that...
but on the other hand, the themes are better...

Seems that text news in T-Zones are better than it was with 4.0.1.
