whats up ... i too went back and forth with these 2 and finally decided on the 8700c .... or i should properly say , i went for the 8700c before even the 7130e or 7130c officially went out for sale ..... i think ? don't quote me . but one major difference i noticed is that unless i'm mistaken isn't the 7130e for sprint CDMA network and the 7130c for cingular GSM ? that would also mean you have to decide if international travel is a must for you and since most of the world uses GSM ...... there's your decision making help . i absolutely love the look and feel personally of the 7130e from sprint and after acually holding it , i must say if feels truly like a BB with tons of features like : SMS , MMS , and EV-DO support for use with the SPrint POwer NEtwork . now the 7130e has EDGE and GSM network which you can use overseas with any SIM card if unllocked and provides you with a truly Global phone rather than just a US BB only . some things to debate or sure .... basically if your USA BOUND ONLY and you would EV-DO support then the 7130e is best , but for international BB use and EDGE support , the 7130c would be the " sensable " option " .

just my .02 .

Thanks 4 the help guys...I'm really partial to GSM, but I recently moved to a new city(a larger city) about a year ago and the GSM coverage here is really lacking. I love, love, love GSM, but unfortunately I might be forced to go the CDMA route and get the 7130e. I was hoping someone would provide some great insight but I guess you could have the coolest phone on the block but if you don't have coverage it's worthless.

The 8700 does not have the tethered modem capability. I have the 7130e on verizon's network. I don't know the difference between the 7130 c and e. I love the 7130e especially for the tethered modem. It works great. Only issue is the random reboots that the 7130 does. See other threads for that issue.

Different providers.

Your decision should not be 7130c or 7130e.

It should be Verizon or Cingular.

What difference does it make which device is "better" (not saying one is) it the better one doesn't get any coverage?

Brilliant response greenie - the variation between carriers / features / coverage etc offered is much more important than individual phones offered.
