Thinking of buying an 8700g from O2 in Ireland.

Undecided as to whether to use it as my primary phone also.

I'm using a Nokia 6230 at the moment.

Do people actually find they can type a lot faster on the 8700g? I do a lot of texting on my phone.... which would be the other nice reason to roll it into my blackberry.

How about the phonebook/other phone features?

I used to think the same way, should I shouldn't I ...

I made the change about a year ago and I've not regretted it a single bit. I now tend to send Email to my friends rather than text, I also used MSN and Yahoo on the bus too! much faster than texting.

I do use it as my main phone but I've got a BT headset for talking on it, I don't have the 8700 but the 7290 has almost identical features.

Try it, with T-Mobile UK you can take it back within 30 days for a different handset if you hate it that much

Definetly do it! I used to have a Razr and coming to the Blackberry was the best thing I could have done. I started with a 7230 and now have a 8700g. The phone quality is excellent for me and the phonebook is very robust, lets you pack in so much info on a person. The e-mail is great, web browsing is unbelievably fast. And little features like a passwork keeper, notepad, calendar, and the customizeability (sp?) of the phone in general rocks. You won't regret it. Now it's time to write out my next sermon for my church. This is Mavis...OUT!

I love the phone on my 8700. I use my work 8700 far more than my personal samsung flip phone. The typing on it is so much easier than using a cell phone for texting.

I bought my 8700c back in December and have used it has my primary phone the whole time. I've never thought about getting a 2nd phone to use my BB for data only nor have I ever thought about getting a house phone. By far the greatest phone I've ever owned.

i love mine as well. I have a 7290, but as mentioned earlier, its very similar to the 8700. i love the one-touch mute button (i'm on a lot of conference calls), the easy conferencing option, the volume controls on the scroll wheel and last but not least.... the fact that I can put a speed dial entry on all 26 letters of the alphabet. I LOVE that. i hold M for Mom, V for office voicemail, H for home, etc, etc.

The volume in general on the 8700g is much louder than 7290. Granted it's still not as loud as some other phone's, this 8700 line of bb's has been much improved in that dept. Calls are still crystal clear.

The 8700 is the 1st BB I ever considered using as my only device. After 4+ years of BB and phone separate, I finally did it.

as far as texting -it is the ultimate device...flip back and forth between exting and e-mailing with ease.

The key is getting a high quality Bluetooth headset. I like all the PLantronics offerings, but YMMV.

Also - I have one of the customizable buttons on the outside programed to "lock" the keys, so I can throw it in my pocket.

The 8700 is really not THAT large compared to what we all carried 2-3 years go...

Would I like a camera, removable memory, and MP3 capability...SURE!

But for now I'll just carry the BB, and put the ipod video and the Casio Exlim S600 in my backpack and be pretty happy

oh, and the charger for the BB, The ipod, The Camera (which is a small brick and a dock), the Bt headset, and the Dell 700m.

so I actually succeed in cutting down the size of all my devices, but my travel weight is the same because I have all the cords and chargers.

Dude this post is probably really late. But a BB is the best mobile phone deivce money can buy in my opinion. I bought mine. 82.99 off of ebay!

I use the BB for date and phone. I was a little nervous that the device would have poor phone reception problems but I did a lot of research and found that the 8700 didn't really have those issues. So far, so good. I don't travel outside my home area too often but went on vacation a little while ago (just to Florida) and it worked great. Anywhere there is good coverage you should be cool. I would think it would be same for your area.

Yep phone quality is as good as any other phone that I have had. At least on my end: the volume is good, the sound quality, the phone features as well. All very very acceptable. As far as what the other person hears on the other end. I have had no complaints.

I am using the 8700c not the g though. But close enough perhaps.

Ok, I guess the only complaint that I have is that when you use the BB as a phone, people tend to think that you are some sort of weirdo trying to talk into a PDA. Not everyone it hip enough to know that it is a phone
