Exclamation Help!! How can I restore the address book?

Please Login to Remove!

A user had his BB die. The unit works, but the display is blank. I am able to connect this BB to my computer and perform a backup.

Is there a way to restore this backup to another BB (same model)? Specifically, can I restore the address book from the old one (or backup) onto the new one?

All help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Rob

In Desktop Manager there is a Backup/Restore facility.

Backup the old one.
Restore to the new one.

Really, really easy.

in theory you should be able to go into backup-restore- 'advanced' and highlight/save the address book database somewhere on your local pc and then restore it to the new bb.

place the new bb in the cradle, go back into backup-restore, then restore the file.

from the help tab in the desktop manager:

backup:

1. Connect your device to your computer.

2. Open the Desktop Manager.

3. Double-click the Backup and Restore icon.

4. Click Advanced.

5. If your device is locked, type your password. Click OK.

6. In the Device Databases section, select the database(s) to back up.

7. Click .

8. On the File menu, click Save As.

9. Type a name and select a location for your backup file.

10. Click Save.

then

Restore specific information to a device

1. Connect your device to your computer.

2. Open the Desktop Manager.

3. Double-click the Backup and Restore icon.

4. Click Advanced.

5. If your device is locked, type your password. Click OK.

6. On the File menu, click Open.

7. Select a backup file (an .ipd file).

8. Click Open.

9. In the Desktop File Databases section, select the database(s) to restore.

10. Click .

11. Click Yes.

Right. Everything works, except the display.

Anyway, I followed the instructions from above and was able to restore his phonebook to the replacement BB.

Thanks to all who helped!
