regarding SD/Memory card slot on the BB:
my thoughts are that RIM would have to work out a deal with a software vendor or something in order to offer a propietary document handling software as most of BB users are business and would most likely like the expansion for document handling (at least i know that would be the main reason i would want the slot) as well as for media capabilities - so im sure they have to make agreements with software companies that offer these software for BB. The camera would be awesome - i bought a SK3 just for the media purposes, although the SK3 has nothin on my BB and the camera is jack the media player is handy (1 device, music, camera, phone) it has a great form factor now that danger decided to outsource their manufacturing to SHARP, solid build, like i said its great for what it is - they also mentioned that it was to run on EDGE yet i have not had that experience as of yet(tmobile). sorry for the rant but thats my .02

will we need to eventually pay for the video installation and are those videos the only clips they have or will there be more?

As of right now, the only users who will have to pay for the SonaMobile Player are Rogers Customers at a charge of $5/month.
As for the future of them being free, if you notice there is advertisements before the clips begin, so after testing I am sure a decision will be made by the advertisers if it is worth their while to keep advertising on the clips.
Video clips are to be updated throughout the day, Monday through Friday. You can log onto canada.com and see the scheduled update times. If I am not mistaken off the top of my head it's going to be 9am and 5pm EDT.

awesome find! Downloaded the ota2 freebie on my 8700c, grabbed all three free clips and watched them. Video/audio synch are glitchy at times, but this is still very cool. The downloads take a few minutes, but heck, this isnt a Cray computer, it's a blackberry.
It would be great if you could time a polling of the website with the updated clips, to download them during off use times (say 5am). Then, wether in the car, train, or at the office desk, you could view them at will.

That will eventually be coming with an updated release, where the content can just be pushed to your device.

Good stuff. Now that the programming community knows that this is do-able, hopefully someon is working on a more flexible format - i.e., downloading any clips, streaming media, etc.

Hey it's not spectacular but its not bad for free. I"d maybe like to see the ability to download other news or other files. I'm in ny i'd like to see some more espn like sports update, but hey it is a canadian company. But at least you can see the capability of the 8700.

Anyone know how to remove downloaded clips from memory. If you delete them in SonaMobile, the meory is not freed up in the device. A hard reset did the trick, but that seems like too much trouble. Any other way to force the device to free up the memory after clips are deleted?

AV sync is definitely off SUBSTANTIALLY, but that's life, I suppose. It takes 10 minutes or so to download a single 1.5-2 minute clip. Not sure if I'd care for that. Maybe this will be something nice on EV-DO or HSDPA, but right now, on EDGE, it's not very great.

T-Mobile also and no problems here on my end.
You may want to try and delete the program and reinstall.
I was having issues earlier and did that, and it works fine now. For some reason I believe the culprit was it stopped sending the request out to get the video clips. Dunno for sure.

Tried that twice now. No luck. Wonder if it has to do with my software version I am running. I just upgraded to the newest on the site, .456 I believe it is.

There are other users experiencing the same thing. I have sent 2 emails now to support and waiting to hear back from them. As soon as I hear from them I will post with what they say.
I am wondering if it has to do with an overload of requests into their download site.
Lemme ask this too, when you go to browse clips, are your blue data transfer arrows flashing?

They start to, an arrow points out, and then an arrow points back in and then the error comes up. Thanks, keep us informed!

Blatantly stolen from here(squidoo dot com slash blackberry8700 since I can't post URLs yet)
Go to:
Options>>Advanced Options>>TCP
Under APN enter:
wap.voicestream.com
Finished!
Open up the program and select "View Latest Downloadable Clips" and a list will appear for you to download.
I've got it rolling on my 8700c on T-mobile following that setting. Now somebody figure out what format this is, and how to encode clips in it.
