Default The 8100 and macs. ATTN:boy genius

To boy genius,

I see in one of your posts you say the phone mounts like a harddrive. Have you had a chance to try this with a mac? Also you say you can bluetooth certain things to and from the phone, again any chance to try any of these things with a mac? One more question. With all the consumer level improvements did they dumb down any of the advanced features?

I tried to post this before and im not sure if it was posted so sorry if this ends up being a double post.

Thanks.

BG,
If you try using the usb cable can you post the results? I have a G5 w/no bluetooth adapter.

Thanks

I second that. Thanks for the response about the file transfer. If you find anything that the 8100 can do that previous BB's couldn't do with a mac it would be much appreciated by many if you would post your findings.

I believe I already know the answer to this question but I will ask it, does it work as a modem in OS X?

Default Can't get BB 8100 to work

Hi. I am a proud new owner of a BB8100 Pearl. I have attempted to attach my 8100 to two macs - both not Intels. I get a "USB CHARGING CURRENT IS NOT SUFFICIENT, blah, blah" It will not show up in PocketMac for Blackberry and will not let me sync. Any advice? I am running the latest MacOS 10.4.7 and have plugged the phone into every USB port there is on the tower. It does not work.

I've added this device to my BT devise list and it will not let me browse the device. What process did you use to get a browse-able device?

PocketMac 4.0 needs to be released. You (as well as every other 8100 mac user) should email them and get them/RIM on the ball to release this software!

that sucks I plan on getting my Pearl on Friday. I have never done a phone upgrade before can they (T-Mo) take my contacts and move them from my 7290?
I will definately get on the email bandwagon to PocketMac & RIM about an update

Hmm, that's not my experience. I'm trying to send an image (JPG) to the Pearl via Bluetooth and keep getting a "Device does not have the necessary services" error.

Additionally, when I plug in the device using the provided USB cable I get the same "not enough power" message on the phone, and the device does not mount on the desktop.

Could it be because I don't have a microSD card?

S.

I don't have an 8100 (yet) but logic would tell me that if you don't have a MicroSD card then... yes, it has nothing to mount. If it works at all like my Treo 650, then it will mount the MicroSD card as a removable drive. IF there's not MicroSD card then I don't see what it would mount. Just my 2 cents.

There is also internal storage.

Anyone aware of plans to offer the 8100 Pearl through Verizon?

I know that, but I'm just saying that it has been my experience that if there is removeable media on the device (SD, MicroSD... whatever it may be), THAT'S what gets mounted on the computer as a removable drive. Not the internal storage. Not trying to sound like a smart@ss, just stating that's how I would imagine it'd work.

I really hope PM gets their software ready to go soon. If I can't sync the Pearl to my Mac I might have to stay with the Sidekick I'm currently testing.

Madagi is right.... at least from my experience. I'm a Treo 650 owner who's getting ready to switch to the Pearl. With the Treo, and every other phone to my knowledge, you never mount the internal memory. Everything you mount is always the external storage.
