LED email notification - 15 minute limit

Just a quick post to save other people some time. I upgraded from the 7730 to the 8700 and got annoyed with the 15 minute limit on the LED indicator for new email. I searched these forums and discovered the limit (to save battery life, apparantly), and decided to try software to get around it.
I tried Notifire and Webmessenger Message Alerts and neither were able to get around the LED switching off (well, Message Alerts sort of did but it behaved very inconsistently).
I'd be happy to hear if anyone else has got around it another way (or with Notifire or Message Alerts using better filters than I was able to come up with).
