Default Question about buying from Amazon

Please Login to Remove!

I had an 8700c on cingular but when I changed jobs my new job didn't support the bb so I ended up getting rid of it. Now that I miss it I'm thinking about switching to t-mobile since they seem to offer the cheapest bb plans. It looks like amazon is offering the 8700g for 49.99 before rebate but they don't offer the minutes and mail plan for 59.99. Would I have an issues if I were to buy from amazon and then port my number over and switch plans?

I know I would lose out on the rebate that amazon is offering since the plan would change but I'm not really that worried about it since the phone is far less there than it is from any other site.

You have to be very careful wheb buying from places like that. There have been horror stories about how they screwed up people,s contracts. Make sure you read all the fine print.

If you stick with a plan they offer there, do you tend to be OK?

I'm sure they have to be somewhat legitimate. I'm just saying to be careful. They get paid based on the rate plan you choose, and usually not until you've had that rate plan for 6 months. If you keep the plan you purchase the phone with, there shouldn't be reason to worry.

Well then would porting my number be an issue? I can always get the 600 + unlimited night and week and a bb plan + text...it would probably be a better choice anyway

Ports have a tendency to go wrong no matter where you are activating from. Wether at a store or online. Especially if you currently have nextel, as they use number guard.

well damn, i'm going to be moving from cingular and my number ends in 4000, so I'd prefer not to give it up.

it looks like what amazon has you do is they send you a new t-mobile number and then leave it up to you to contact t-mobile and have your number moved over.

Well, everyone says that t-mobile has great customer service, but that still sounds like a scary proposition. Just make sure you don't cancel your cingular account. It will be canceled wheb the port request comes through, but if its cancelled prior to that, it won't be able to be ported.

I bought my 8700g on Amazon. I went from Cingular to TMO. I migrated my old phone number from Cingular to TMO without any problem whatsoever, it took about 8 hours for the process to be complete. All I did was contact TMO customer service and it was done without a hitch.

My wife did the exact same thing (Cingular --->TMO) without any problem whatsoever.

I know many people who have done this and I have never heard of anyone having an problem at all.

I really would not worry about it and go for it.

I *did* lose out on the rebate, I guess because I changed from a data only to the Minutes and Mail plan. This was back in April. Not a big deal, I am much happier with TMO than Cingular. I was with ATTWS-->Cingular for a decade.

I have been using it ever since.
