Default Are we paying too much?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi All.
Been a BB user for almost 3 months now and very happy too.

We have three 8707V on UK Vodafone.
We currently pay as follows:
1. 1000 min shared plan on Vodaphone
2. 3 x BB data charges, I think approx 12 UK£ each
3. 50mb Data bundle from Vodafone.

Two questions really:
1. Is the above correct? Should we be buying a 50mb data plan from Vodafone?
2. I hear on this forum all the time the phrase "Unlimited BB data plan" but when I can UK Vodafone they say they dont offer this. Can anyone confirm please?

Thanks in advance
Roy

Hi, sorry I can't help much on the UK data plan costs but when you read 'unlimited BB data plans' those are our US plans. For example, I have TMobile 39.99 plan with 650 minutes (the 50 were a bonus) and unlimited nights and weekends. Then I have, for an additional 19.99 a month, the BlackBerry Addon Plan. This gives me unlimited data usage (email and web browsing) for the month. It seems from what you say, that those plans are not offered in the UK.

Vodafone UK does have a BlackBerry roaming plan code BBEAF. You need a business account to have it added.

Thanks everyone.

Jax.
I do have a business plan so I will investigate this option.
What does the BBEAF offer?

Your UKP 12 per month per device is for the BB data plan. This includes 6Mb for BB traffic including emails and attachments, PIM sync etc.

And since traffic over RIM's network is efficiently compressed, you're very unlikely to exceed 6Mb.

The 50Mb is for all other GPRS/UMTS traffic like browsing and FTP stuff. Plus of course MMS if/when you get your hands on the new BB Pearl.

So unless you're using your BBs extensively with non-email applications, you shouldn't need a separate allowance for data.

David..
Thanks for the precise answer.
Will get onto it first thing in the morning.
Just one final question.
Does UK BB offer an unlimted plan as I travel to China and HK quite a lot and would use the BB over there?
Does anyone have a telephone number for BB UK???

AFAIK UK Voda's Unlimited data plan is for use with Mobile Connect cards, not BBs and similar devices with voice capability.

I've found when using a 8700v overseas that, although the Mb rate can exceed UKP 10, the actual charges are surprisingly light, provided you stick with a preferred network (in your case China Mobile).

This could be due to BB's efficient data compression that I referred to in an earlier post.

UK Voda's business CS is on +44 8704 500055. You may like to ask them why you're being charged UKP 12 per month for your BB data plan; my understanding is that the charge is UKP 8.51 per month plus tax for all Sharetime tariffs.
