For clarification, your gripe is with T-mobile and not with the phone itself?

I'm confused by the end of this statement:

How would an unlocked phone allow a different carrier's signal take over the phone? Roaming is governed by the carriers as to which towers they wish to share with other carriers. An unlocked phone only allows the consumer to place a different carrier's SIM card in the phone for use on that network.

Can you explain your statement please?

I would guess it means just what most people have experienced:

T-Mobile Reception (Signal strength and tower availability) is not as good as Cingular's. In other words, you will get a stronger signal and better reception in more areas when this phone is used on a Cingular network because Cingular has more towers in more places allowing for greater signal strength.

...Of course, this is true with any device which is GSM, not limited to the Pearl, when using them on Cingular and Tmobile, comparatively.

You guys missed the point, there was 2 comments, one about the 8100 RF reception, and 1 about Cingular coverage. Point one was take a t-mobile sim and put it in an 8700, and then put it in an 8100, the 8100 has worse RF. Second point, Cingular's coverage is better than T-Mobile

I always thought TMobile phones could roam on Cingular towers. Was I misinformed? I'll agree that Cingular's coverage seems to be better in most places, but wouldn't my phone hop onto a Cingular signal?

Doppler, T-Mo uses Cingular roaming often, but not in every area. Where I live Cingular has great coverage, but T-Mo roams on Dobson, who's coverage isn't so good (in my area).

I just did that too. Never saw before that I could choose which network. There has to be some drawback to this though? Extra Costs? Something like that?

If the costs are contingent upon which network you roam then I think your carrier would be obligated to disclose this to you.

I can choose the network on my 7100t and the Cingular network shows up. But in my area, it won't actually connect.

Cingular will be taking back some of their bandwith from T-Mobile very soon. T-Mobile customers on the west coast will be sad. That's most likely why T-Mobile is pushing so hard for UMA

No, im not talking about RF im saying when you have service the phone works fine, its comfortable and small, screenshots had cingular because the prototypes are unlocked and Cingular kills T-Mobile in reception
oh... so you saying T-mobile don't have good reception... I could live with that. That's what I have now anyway.

I am more concern about the price so that's why I have T-mobile.

YES, apples to apple guys, 8100 reception is worse than any other berry regardless of carrier, on 8700 I would get 1-2 bars at my office, and 8100 maybe 1 bar usually stays on searching for 30min at a time (on T-Mobile)

That's true. It depends on the agreement T-mobile made with Cingular.

If it can get T-mobile and Cingular reception, even if T-mobile is weak, it will go into T-mobile.

Every video I've tried works great. What are you using to encode them? try using the mplayer encoder. Works like a charm (or pearl in this case).

Wrong. You can't move any files out of the original folders.
Highlight the file and click the BB button for the full menu, see the Move option there? Or you can go into the explore view and manage files.

BES limitation. I wonder if since it can do .wav's with SP2 that you can add .mp3 to the extension list?

Possibly fixed with software updates.

Out of curiosity, what version of handheld code is running on your Pearl BG?

These are just my opinions/views, as are BG's.
