Im a newbie to the Blackberry scene, so I was wondering how the case and the sleep function go hand in hand??

There is a magnet under the keypad that puts the 8100 to sleep when in contact with another magnet in the holster. It keeps the phone on standby and locks the keypad so you don't accidentally make a call. Once you take it out. It turns back on as normal. There are also settings to make the phone act differently when in the holster as opposed to when out of the holster.

Someone mentioned earlier that the Blackberrypearl.com site has a photo of a "silverish" leather case. Its true, BUT, unfortunately if you go onto blackberry.com its actually a case for the 7100 series, not the 8100. Pretty decieving.

All RIM has planned thus far is a leather sleeve and an ipod-shuffle'esque rubber "jacket" for the 8100.

I must say, I'm really happy with the SDA case. Seems ideal to me.

It is actually a very nice case, I like it a fair amount myself.

I went to the store today to check out the SDA case and it really does fit it quite well. I wonderd though without a clip that hooks around your belt if you feel like you are going to pull the case off as well when pulling the phone out?

Just got the SDA case and I agree with that it really is very nice for the 8100. Incidentally, it does have a belt clip.

Yeah, I saw that it slides over your belt. I tried it on. but many holsters these days have belt clips that actually hook under the bottom of your belt so they will not easily slip off. Without that, I was wondering if it felt like you were pullign the holster off when you took the phone out of the case.

Since this phone was designed for the comsumer and all how much does it effect battery life to have a holster vs a case like Krusell that does not have the magnet?

Default Modded the t-mobile 8100 case

I just simply modded the t-mobile 8100 case I got today by taping, with black electical tape, a small magnet I had lying around to the bottom back of the case. It then acts as a "sleeper case" or whatnot. i have heard other people having to put the phone in upside down which sucks ( I did that for like two hours and then figured this simple task out) It looks great because the electrical tape matches the back perfect and you cant see it from the front at all. The magnet I used was a small one from a magnetic door latch like the ones used on glass cabinet doors on enterainment stands. Had one lying around but its like $2 at a hardware store. Works even though its not in the case but on the back. I will use this atleast until the blackberry proper cases and skins are available.

Even though it is "designed for consumers" what ever that means....that does not change the fact that it is a blackberry, and blackberrys are designed to work with sleeper magnets. The sleeper magnet adds a number of functional improvments including better battery life.

Not at all. The clip is quite tight and the Pearl is so light the case doesn't move at all when I remove the phone.

I think I'll hold out for their OEM case.

deezmfnutz, in your last photo of the SDA case. It looks like theres a small gap on the top from the 8100 to the case.

Does the Pearl fit snuggly inside, or is it a bit loose?

The last photo is slightly mis-leading. The picture makes it look like there is a fairly large gap, in fact there is a very small gap. The 8100 is a pretty snug fit, actually there is just enough room so that it is easy to pull the 8100 out of the case. Keep in mind that the SDA phone is 4.53" in legnth while the 8100 is 4.2" in legnth, so there is a small gap, but not too much........about a quarter inch.

Great, then it's Invisible Shield + SDA Case for me.
Thanks for the clarification.

Picked up my case from a T-Mobile store yesterday. Works great and I figure with thier return policy I can use it until the OEM comes out

The really nice thing about the holster isn't that it turns off your BB it's that you can have notification settings for in and out of holster.

I like the mod posted above about the electrical tape and magnet. I really don't know what T-Mobbile was thinking when designing this, but I really haven't minded putting it in upside down.

Just checked out the OEM from the image that weegee posted and based on the design I wouldn't be suprised if you didn't have to holster the Pearl upside down to use the auto shutoff.

That is unless they put two magnets in the holster. One to secure the flap and the other at the bottom to trigger the shut off.

Anybody magically get thier hands on the OEM yet that can verify?
