Default How-To: Disable Desktop Redirector via Policy

Please Login to Remove!

My BES is at 4.1.2.20 and i want to disable (thru a policy) the desktop redirector from working to my user base. Is this possible or do i have to create a custom DM install file with that option removed?

Thx

I can't see how you could do that since that would mean the BES is applying something similar to AD Group policy to your machines.
You're currently using 4.1, may i ask why your users require DM?

You should be all set if you configure it in the Service Exclusivity It Policy to Allow Other Message Services = False....

I thought Allow other message services was for stuff like hotmail, yahoo mail etc?? My users need this so disabling that is not really an option. How does this block the use of the Desktop Redirector??

Thx

Theoretically, Desktop Redirector would only be used by a device that's not connected to BES...right? Otherwise, what's the use for it if the user is already synching via BES?

That said, it would make sense that you couldn't disable the Desktop Redirector from BES since 99% of the time a user wanting to use it wouldn't even be connected to BES and thus couldn't receive a policy setting disabling it.

Am I misreading your question?

No you are not misreading at all but my concern (reason for the question) is that when a user installs a new version of DM on their own it installs the Redirector component. Then if a user doesn't know what they are doing they could launch it and thus screw things up. This is why i was hoping that there was some policy we could set that would only allows users to use the BES... We have made a custom DM installer but we can't control the users getting their own version from the web.

Thx
