I did NOT have to delete the vendor.xml (I did that when I went to 3.8). I do not see the Bluetooth issue ether, it seems nice and loud (using an HS850).

Step by Step:

1) Backed up unit (I know the process does this, but I wanted the piece of mind!)
2) Installed the Update from BB website.
3) Connected BB and answered 'yes' to update and took all defaults.
4) Went and watch Law and Order: Trial by Jury on my new 42" Plasma while the loading happened.
5) Once complete (30-45 min!) I deleted EVERYTHING in my service book.
6) I went to T-Mobile BWC abd re-sent my service book. Once that was RECEVIED I re-sent the web browsing service book (or something like that).
7) Tested everything, Hid icons I would never use (Enterprise Activation, the Cingualr browser, etc...)
8) Thanked the people on this board for all thier help and assisatance so I had no issues.

Hope this helps!

*sigh* i dont know why i keep having trouble with this. I downloaded the desktop software and handheld software from the link provided at the beginning of this topic. I then installed both on my company computer. I connected my unlocked 7100t *using at&t sim*. The program detects the device via USB connection and it runs through the process if I am going to be using BlackBerry Enterprise Server/Redirection or Internet email. I choose BES/Redirection and then I choose the option of using Redirection only since I am not set up on the BES. Everything completes successfully and then the Device synchronizes with my Outlook Email. Contacts are transferred over. now sbagdan stated he had to wait about 30-45 min. for update to complete. I haven't gotten to a point in which the program ever asks me to update. Also how do you resend the service book from the T-Mobile Blackberry Web Client? Is the T-Mobile BWC an actual website or is this something done on my blackberry through settings? Also since I am using a t-mobile device with an A&T sim do I have to download the t-mobile software or do I download the AT&T software?

note: i go to settings > about - i have the following info: Wireless Handheld v4.0.0.198 (Platform 1.8.0.121)
note: i go to settings > applications > blackberry 4.0 System Software > Modules - i see majority of information having v4.0.0.198

Does this mean I have an old version or am I already updated?
(*sigh* and i'm a techie too, how embarrasing )

You need to get the service book from the service you are on, sounds like you are on AT&T....

I am on T-Mobile, and use BWC (THis is a website you get access to by your carrier.)

I hope this helps....

w1ze,

You need to remember to delete the VENDOR.XML file. The upgrade for your device will not launch without deleting this first.

We have BES 3.6 and aren't planning to upgrade to 4.0 until a couple of months or so. I want to see what it will look like on my 7290, but since we haven't upgraded is there any real reason to download 4.0 (desktop & handheld).

DO NOT DELETE ANYTHING ON YOUR BLACKBERRY.

VENDOR.XML is on your C: drive. Search for it and delete it on the C: drive and NOT on the BlackBerry.

Vendor.XML is usually in your C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader directory. Delete the Vendor.XML file in that directory.

I'm continuing to test:
- Motorola Bluetooth Car Kit still doesn't work.
- It seems like audio level is too low in the Mot HS850 earpiece is too low. I don't think that I have as much volume as I did before.

I agree, I have now been running 4.0 for a whole day, and the BT connection on the HS850 is MUCH lower than in 3.8.. :(

So it there any advantages of 4.0 over 3.8? Sounds like 4.0 BT is not too great. Should I just stay with 3.8?

some programs require 4.0 to run properly (or require them to run), nothing to special other than password keeper and maybe a few other fixes. If your happy with what you have, I would suggest sticking with the version that you have. I don't use the bluetooth functions, so I wouldn't know if their are any problems with it. Everything else works great for me though.

Its only required if you need the update.

I upgraded to 4.0 today and I didn't delete any files on my workstation. What is the purpose of deleting the Vendor file?
As far as the Bluetooth is concerned it is a bit quiter but then it was way to loud for me before. I wear hearing aids and I had to keep turning it down. It seems about right now.

I still can't seem to get PocketDay to show stocks or weather. Everything else is working great.

you didn't have to if you were upgrading from AT&T 3.8 to 4.0. Its only suggested if you installed 4.0 from another carrier, and want to uninstall the other carrier to install the new carrier. Otherwise the vendor.XML file won't let you install another carriers OS.

So, does 4.0 really solve the voice cutoff problem on the 7290?
