Default help the n00b: why does the screen go dark?

Please Login to Remove!

Got a new 8100, first BB, seems great. But why does the screen go completely dark after some predetermined time and not keep the date/time/other useful icons lit up at the top? Have I missed a setting? I know how to adjust that predetermined time but I want to be able to just pull the phone out of my pocket and glance it at without having to revive it. What am I missing?

Thanks.

Mine does that. You can change the settings for it. I believe it is to conserve battery life

Thanks. So there's no way to keep the time alive on the display? Seems strange. A friend's older BB (big square blue thingy) shows time, as does the POS cell phone I just replaced.

Darth Vader virus. Go to the dark side. All BB's have it. May the force be with you.

If you get a case with the "sleep magnet" in it you can pull it out of the case and it will light up nicely for your time check. Then when you put it back, it will go back to the dark side all by itself.....
