Default MicroSD means more space for apps too?

Please Login to Remove!

I was going to buy a memory card to have extra space for a few music files and pictures, but I was wondering if the extra space can also be used for applications? Because according to the manual, it only specifically mentions space for more media. I didn't only want to get one if it was only for media.

To the best of my knowledge, you cannot install applications to the mSD Card.. There is never an option of "Where" you want to install something.. It just goes.

Do you really have that many apps that would take up a lot of room on the internal memory? I have 6-7 3rd party apps, over 4000 emails, and I still have 22MB free, which is a lot considering emails are very small, and apps are generally under 100k...

Ditto on gfisher's comments. I am not aware of having the option to install applications on a MicroSD card.

Most all Applications are very small files so I do not see how you could even come close to maxing out the Pearl's internal memory. That said, maybe someday third party software might allow this function. But I am not aware of any at this point.

By the way, a 1GB MicroSD chip only cost about $33+- At those prices, get the chip. Even if it takes you two years to fill the chip, it still is handy to have. And for sure, if you start putting just a few MP3 and video files on the Pearl's internal memory, it will fill up real soon.

I think a MicroSD chip on the Pearl is so common that I would find it odd to see a Pearl that did not have one. Kinda like a car in Arizona not having air conditioning.

No, you can't put programs on it. It will, however, save you space because you can migrate ringtones, pictures, videos and songs to it, thus freeing up internal memory. I agree with gfisher99 in that you should have plenty of space for many many apps.

It won't be required. By the time the apps get that large, you won't be using a Pearl any longer..

64MB is plenty for application storage, right now and for the next few years.

Even with the internal memory, I've managed to placed at least 20 pics and 9 ringtones with 5.51MB free. Newegg just shipped out the 1GB microSD so I'll have to wait until Friday or Monday :(

Dang it. This always happens to me. I already spilled out $37 for the 1GB from newegg and now you've found it for half as cheap plus better shipping. Oye.
