Default How many of us are waiting on the 8800 Crimson

Please Login to Remove!

Just checking out the 8800 Crimson. I dunno- I think I've already defected and will be switching. Full QWERTY, WiFi, BlueTooth, Video Recorder, Cam and Media Player and still in a small pocket friendly package.

Dimensions; Crimson vs Pearl (mm)
106x60x15.5 vs 107x51x14

Anyone else already made up their minds?

The only thing that might change my mind is the WiFi. That would be sweet.

Sorry - I heard it didn't have a cam or video recording... where did you get your info from?

I'll wait. I like the Pearl specs, maybe the Dash, but want to avoid using Win05(Dash). But I'd like WiFi and QWERT(Dash has those). I have a couple months b4 my Verizon deal expires. When's the 8800 due out?

Seems to be April 07.

linky with info, pics and specs on both Indigo and Crimson

Only thin making me nervous is how'd they manage to keep the size pretty damn near identical to the Pearl but still offer QWERTY? Then again those specs might be off, I dunno but if they aren't then I hope the keyboard is easy to work with.

Interesting. Hopefully the Pearl will re-sell well in the future if I decide to upgrade.

I second that, this is my fear also, April isn't very far away and by then between the otther carriers offering it with deals, it being on like eBay and newer BB models coming out I 'm hoping it doesn't depreciate like hell.

I'll be upgrading to both, as soon as they're available.

The joys of working for a company that is always adding Blackberry devices...!

I really really like the 8100 but the 8800 is much better for what I want to do.

I'm not too worried about it because I like the smaller form factor of the Pearl and I wouldnt really use the video recorder or WiFi. To me, having a better internet connection does not speed up things too much because you cant navigate too quickly on a mobile device to begin with.

What would be cool is if the new models added 3G support... mmm faster laptop modem action.

Derail, I know... but I'm in Central CT and NYC and while I can connect with the 8100, it is so horrendously slow that it's not worth using. It's not the 8100's fault, as a tethered 8700 has the same issue.

Working with my T-Mobile rep, who's a great guy, but I'm likely to swap carriers as a result, though probably only some of the users.

Will just trade up to it when it comes out IF it's truly better. Personally, coming from a Treo, I don't miss the full QWERTY since I don't type novels from the cell. If the size is truly what is claimed it may be worth the switch when it comes out... just my $.02.

On the form factor/size, check dimensions, the Crimson is pretty much identical to the Pearl.
8100 107 x 51 x 14 mm
8800 106 x 60 x 15.5 mm Pretty damn close.

On the WIFI, sometimes I'm in the situation where EDGE coverage is kinda crappy but WiFi is available, it isn't really a big deal to me either thought to be honest, just a nice backup.

So is it fair to say that we have to choose between embedded (i.e., no bluetooth puck need) GPS with the Indigo and or a camera with the Crimson? I hate to have to make that choice, but I'd go with the GPS.

I'm likely to go with the Crimson/Indigo as long as the keyboard isn't super cramped, but the dimensions would almost have to be off for the keyboard to work on size like that.....we'll see.

I'm sure I'll get one and then decide which to keep out of that one or my 8100. Whichever of my users is the nicest gets the one I don't want

I have grown to love the small form factor of the Pearl. I adapted long ago to the SureType keyboard and I am probably as fast if not faster than on a full thumb QWERTY. WiFi isn't that important to me as if I am at home, I'll use a normal PC. If I am out, then I'd need to buy a WiFi data plan. When I travel to Europe WiFi is absurdly expensive as is GPRS so I'd just stick with my BB email plan there.

Ultimately I'd have to see one in person before deciding. If the Crimson wasn't too much bigger than my 8100, I might consider it. I definitely want a camera no matter what. An embedded GPS receiver could sway me if it also had European maps.

the pearl and the 8800 have the same processer so its just a matter of programing for the 8100 to have the same features that the 8800 has exept for the WiFi.. Personaly I dont get why you need Wifi when you already have a pretty fast internet built into the phone? If you look close there are not that many free wifi spots out there and
