I had 3 Treo 600s and a 650. All were crapola. All had hardware issues. Finally the 650 refused to synch so I gave up and went to a BB 8700c. One of thebest moves I have made as far as cell phones go.

had the treo 700w...had to reset the thing every day....it was heavy...had a cramped keyboard...had poor call quality...had a very weak antenna...almost unusable bluetooth...and battery life that lasted ~1 day. i came back to BB with the 8700g, and don't regret it...the only thing i miss is the SD card and camera - but neither of those are deal breakers for me. i did enjoy being able to get a hosted exchange server account for about $7/mn as opposed to the $20 that it seems to cost for hosted BB solutions.

....oh, and verizon's prices are ridiculous!

I went from a long-time Treo 650 owner to an 8703 & wish I would have gotten a BB to begin with!

I did the 700w for a week, after repeated reboots and loss of network connectivity, I scrapped it and went back to my 7130e.

I guess I am in the "BB for life" category

I would have to agree with you there. The BB 3rd party programs are nowhere near the quality of those offered Palm Users. Hopefully one day the software developers for the BB will be on even par as those for the Palm and PPC.

Already developers such as SplashData are porting their Programs over to the BB...hopefully with more to come.

I lasted for years with Treos, but the entire time it seems like I was trying to cure my instability issues. Just when it looked like I had them under control or eliminated, they'd crop up again. It was an un-ending battle to get my Treo 650 to simply keep doing what it was supposed to be doing: work. When it did work I loved it! The wealth of Palm apps is staggering and you can get a Treo to do just about anything you need or want. But this same multitude of third-party applications is a major cause of instabilty. The other single biggest cause is Versamail's database getting corrupted, and it happens often and seemingly on it's own. So just to make it work like it should, add $30 to the already high price of a Treo to buy Chattermail or Snapper Mail.

I still like the look and solid feel in my hand of the Treo, but it's way too heavy for casual carry, like just throwing it in your pants pocket and dashing out the door. I also like the week-at-a-glance calendar view I got with DateBk 5. I wish RIM would add this view as a calendar option. The calendar views on Windows Mobile is probably the biggest reason I never liked that OS for PDAs and smart phones.

I'm a long time Palm user but bought a cheap "previously enjoyed" 7100v from eBay to replace my phone and the Palm. Quickly upgraded to a 8700v then realised that I missed a couple of Palm apps that I didn't think I could do without - Docs to Go (MS office), Jfile (database), Ultrasoft Money (personal finance) and RMRdiet (fitness & diet) so I bought a Treo 650p.

The Treo was fine, but heavy and bulky and I found that I missed too many calls. Versamail was Ok, but not as useable as BB.

After two months I bought a 7130v and have just sold the Treo on eBay. I've bought GridMagic (spreadsheet) and am trialing TotalFitness. Still looking for a personal finance & database tools.

The other BB negative is that its only partially supported by my TomTom satnav system.

I've pre-ordered a Pearl from Vodafone, but can't get it until the end of Nov unless I want to pay 200UKP for it.

I purchased a Treo 700wx last week from Sprint to replace my well-worn Nextel 7520. I am seriously regretting it already. The Treo is a beautiful gadget but it is heavy, it is hot to the touch and although it does all kinds of neato things (camera, SMS, music files, etc...) that my Berry did NOT do, it does not do them when I TELL IT TO (with any reliability, that is) and I do not really use all of those features anyway. All I want is my e-mail nad truthfully, nothing does that better than a berry. I use about 30 of my 800 voice minutes every month. I really only have heavy usage with Yahoo IM and e-mail. With my Treo, I can do neither. It has MSN Messenger only and it looks great but kicks me off every 2 minutes and the e-mail sucks. All of this Send/Receive on all these seperate accounts is driving me crazy and if I let it poll by itself every minute or so, the battery goes dead in about 2 hours. Shoot me now. I'm such an ass...

My wife has a Treo 600. She tried my 7290 for about a week, then switched back. her reasoning? No touch screen.

Can't reason with some people....

One other thing that's REALLY nice about the 8100, having come from a Treo is the fact that the BB runs on a multasking OS. It is pretty annoying to have to exit your browser to answer an SMS or a phone call only have have to try to retrace your steps if you were ordering something or reading an article. On a BB, not only does the browser stay put in the background, you can also have two web sessions going at the same time if you run Opera Mini as well... I'm in heaven...

I tried the Treo 600 and 650. I don't even know why I bothered. I had too many issues with the Treo including constant freezing and random reboots which persisited even after ROM updates. I'm gonna stick to BlackBerry.

I had a Treo 600, then a Treo 650 hoping the 600 bugs had been worked out, I was wrong. Then I tried the Cingular/HTC 8125 with windows mobile, another big mistake. Finally I tried the Blackberry 8700c, and I still use it today. Such a joy to use and I honestly can't go a day without it.

Well, I came from a Treo 700W, but I think my reason is different than most of you out there. I love the 700W and still do, I think if I hadn't dropped it on the ground, I probably would still be using it, but actually the reason I strayed was because I didn't want to talk into a calculator anymore, I miss the simple flip phone just for voice I had with my razr, so I got a G'zOne from VWZ just for voice and the BB just for email.

When it comes to phone functions, I def. have to give props to the 700W, I mean when you just start typing names in the home screen, it automatically brings up a list of people's names and their cell, work, ...etc. all without having to go into the address book. Still have not found another device with that kind of ease. I also do miss the ability to sync EVERY single folder in my outlook and have EVERY single email as I do on my desktop regardless of how old it is.

My biggest gripe was with activesync, it sucks, sometimes it would sync, sometimes the memory would get so low the device would terminate it completely, so when you send an email, its just sitting in your outbox without you even knowing. and the constant reset EVERY SINGLE DAY just to get back the leaked ram was getting so tiresome, and oh the bluetooth is the worse.
But the call reception was awesome, the ability to browse all the files just like windows was plain great, and the ability to use it as a high speed modem tethering to my laptop was without paying VWZ extra was invalueable due to 3rd party software.

BUT, in the end, the basic ability of using it as an email machine was so lacking that I was willing to sacrafice all the other features of something that does email very well, the BB. I would not use BB as a phone because its awkward to me, I still prefer the simplicity of a plain old cell phone. But PIM and email is what it does best and its really second to none. Sorry for the long rant.
