Default What the???? Is it me.......

OMG!! Just got my second BB Pearl in 2 weeks - sent the first one back to Vodafone because the Autotext decided to stop working all together - I tried everything, Vodafone tried everything then they said its knackered we'll send you a new one. I got that this morning - everything working fine until lunchtime when low and behold the autotext breaks down again! Before I phone Vodafone back has anyone heard of this problem or know how I can fix it?

Also whilst Im here ranting - how do I get rid of the 3 second delay on incoming calls? If I ring my BB I can hear it ringing for a couple of rings and I can see that an incoming call is being registered on my BB but it doesnt ring until 3/4 seconds have passed then it rings - I'm missing loads of calls because of this. Finally is it me or is the LOUD ring setting not that great, maybe it sould be called MEDIUM - any way to crank it up?

Rant over. Help would be great. Cheers. B.

Autotext works fine with me. As for the ringer, yes, that's a big problem. I also noticed it's low too.

Should you upgrade? I don't know. I personally will only upgrade if it's available for my carrier. So far, there's no upgrade for T-mobile.

You could upgrade, if it doesnt fix the problem downgrade back to the original version and then send it back if you need.

The autotext issue is clearly a glitch - I can't believe BB offer no fixes for the problem - its a pretty big problem seeing as the main reason I have a Pearl is to use email and typing without autotext is too time consuming - I hope someone has an fix as I think the handset is great and I realy don't want to change it for a 'normal' phone or a chunky BB.

The ring delay is SO annoying?!!!

I had my autotext keep turning off. I was able to turn it on by hitting the button to the left of the pearl, and scrolling down to autotext on or whatever it says.

You sure you guys are trying this?

I have never had a problem with suretype the easy way to turn it on and off is to hold down the "SYM" key that changes it to multi tap and suretype while in a message or field you can write in.. In fact this is the first I have heard of it just not working period..

Regarding the delayed "ring" when receiving a call...

Please check into your current profile - "normal" I am assuming.

What is the "out of holster" setting? Is it "Vibrate + Tone"?

If so, it's gonna delay that ringtone until it has vibrated.

How many vibrations are set?

Try switching "Vibrate + Tone" to just "Tone" and see if it doesn't ring immediately on your next call. (make sure to -save-) It worked for me.

First off, yours is a Vodafone OS, I have T-Mo and using the original OS that came with the U.S. Pearl. But some settings should be the same.

_____________________________

On the phone ring, you can change your settings to have the phone vibrate only once. This gives you some time to answer the phone as the audible ring will occur faster than if the phone is set to first vibrate two to three times.

_____________________________

By autotext are you referring to SureType? If so, your default settings may be set to MultiTap. To make SureType the default setting:

<settings>

<language>

<input language>

<English(United States)>

Press escape key [key to right of trackball]

Scroll to <save>

Press trackball to save setting.

I don't know what yours will say in place of "United States" but I imagine the general setting will be the same, for example "English, UK".

_______________________

On the ringers, the default ringers are not all that loud. In addition to making sure the "volume" settings in "notifiers" or phone ring are set to "loud" simply download and install other ringers that are louder. For example, some of my classic phone ring sounds are ear busting.

I'll post some ringtones for you to try. Install them and see what you think, or should I say "hear."

I fixed it. Also, here it is in MP3, a smaller file. I did not have time to convert all the others to MP3.

Thank you!!!! The autotext is back! Holding down the SYM key whilst in message mode did the trick - why that shortcut isn't in any of the BB info that came with the handset or why Vodafone couldn't have told me that I'll never know. Anyway thanks very much.
