I have an issue with a 7290 user that I've never seen before. She sent me an email a week ago saying that her 7290 sometimes sounds like a ticking time bomb. I told her to bring it by my desk the next time it happened, which turned out to be this morning. Sure enough, it was in the leather holster, and it was making a very soft ticking sound. It was in the holster backward, so the screen wasn't shutting off, and I wonder if that has something to do with it. Has anyone ever seen this behavior?

If the holster's magnet doesn't shut off the screen, the keys will still be enabled- and so will the audible key-press beeps- or ticks.

This includes the side key under the thumb wheel. It's likely one of the buttons is being pressed, causing the muffled beeping to repeat like a machine gun several times per second.

You can disable the keypress sounds by going to:

Options->Screen/Keyboard->Key Tone->OFF

However, you should use an active holster (one with the magnet designed to put BlackBerry into standby) so that the device is forced into standby mode.

I've heard that before. One of my users complained of the same thing. It was out of the case though. I turned the device off, and the sound persisted. It only stopped when I pulled the battery, and it hasn't happened since.
