Default MS WinXP SP2

Anybody else running into problems with their Desktop Manager software after installing SP2? Mine continues to crash whenever I try to sync. Was online with Rogers Data support for almost 2 hours this afternoon, and they came to the conclusion, based on other issues brought to their attention, that SP2 was the culprit. I was able to get the latest software installed, but even after uninstalling SP2, my desktop manager still continues to crash. I have done a clean uninstall many times already, including cleaning all refs from my registry.

What version of the desktop manager are you running? I know there was a new SP3 version of desktop manager released, that might solve the problem.

If you load SP3 for the Desktop Manager your problem should be taken care of.

I'm in the midst of fixing a possible XP SP2 Desktop Manager issue...and it involved using DM SP3. However, I'm sure if my user installed an older version first. I'm having uninstall everything and then reinstall DM SP3.

I'll let you know the results.

Default Desktop Manager Issues

The DM issues were taking place after installing SP2. Yesterday, to try to correct the problems, I installed DM SP3, as well as the latest versionof the handheld software. Problems continued. Even after uninstalling completely.
The problem didnt arrive until I loaded the latest handheld software, andonce it asked for the DM to be turned on, DM would crash. Also crashing whenever the device was cradled. So, eventually, I ran the application loader, and when it tryed to detect the device, I then cradled it. This way, I was able to get the new handheld software onto the actual device, and then was able to restore my data.
Last night, I removed SP2 from my PC due to the fact I was now getting different errors when trying to configure my pim. The DM would just disappear. And it continued to do this even after the removal of SP2 and a number of reboots. This morning, I was actually able to configure the pim, and syncing is going fine. But I am still without SP2 (not exactly a big deal for me)

hmmmmm... the mysteries of life are nothing compared to the mysteries of hardware and software!

I have had similar problems and I attribute it to SR2. For example when I try to install MetaMessage it won't install. It seems to fail to place the right files in the program files\Rim\BB\loaderfiles\ directory. Typical of the crap microsoft serves up. I tried using the ms restore feature but Desktop Manager still doesn't work properly. Installed the new version of DM but no better. When OS 4 is released I will be able to ditch Microsoft. :P

I've had SP2 for about six months now.
Haven't had any problems with it.
Loaded Desktop redirector software about a month ago, and didn't have any problems. Upgraded it to the latest version last week, and still haven't had any problems synching my blackberry.
I have a Nextel 7510. Using BES.

Maybe you have some other issue, or maybe you have different hardware in your computer that I don't.

I have had the protocol error after installing SP2. had to use a PC without SP2 to upgrade a BB's OS because of it.

Just reregister the COM drivers... there is a Knowledge Base link on RIMS site... It's work on a dozen machines here just fine after the RIM fix.

The link dangel posted doesn't work but it may be the one I'm referring to.

I found the article and did this but it didn't work for me. I cant sync at all b/c every time I select Outlook when configuring PIM, the desktop manager software quits. Sometimes I get an error message, sometimes not :(

Default seems to be DM 3.6.3.10

seems to be DM 3.6.3.10, having issues with Handheld software 3.7.1.41. on the 6710.
I just took on a customer who has the same BB as myself. His DM and handheld software were old, so after upgrading his PC, I installed the latest of each. Lo and behold... the same problems as I have been having. DM crashes when synching. So... I removed the the updated handheld software from his system, and it syncs fine now. although now he is still running the older handheld software.
I must say... it bothers me that blackberry software is having issues with its own company software. Anyone have any thoughts on this? I really dont want to remove the 3.7.1.41 from my device. I knda like it alot. But my BB still crashes on syncing!!! ARGHHHH!!!!
