Default Difference between SMS Messengers & Data?

Please Login to Remove!

Whats the main difference between SMS/DATA Instant messengers? I did a search yesterday for some different applications, and from what I could tell DATA is supposed to be quicker. But I did a few tests with some of my friends while at their houses and didn't really notice any one better then the other.

I like the interface in the T-Mobile OZ Instant messenger but from what I gathered its SMS?.. I tried IM+ and really just figured its aimed at people that need other messengers combined into one application, as for me - my crowd I run with just uses MSN.

Any input?

in your profile it doesn't say location or provider so i'm gonna tell you my experience many have said to the contrary but this is what happened. I found out the hard way that BB msngr is sms. to some not a big deal when unlimited i'm not. tmo Vegas charges 1 text for every BBmsngr sent or rec. I now use yahoo as it uses data Tmo US has unlimited data. see whats best for you.

I'm in Kansas on T-Mobile, and I have the BB Voice & Data plan - 1000 Minutes, Unlimited TXT & Data.

So it seems that people just pick whatever works for their plan, obviously you wouldn't want to use SMS if you don't have an unlimited SMS plan...?

i thought BlackBerry Instant Messenger was completely free? Something RIM gave as a gift to all BB users.

apparently it depends on your server. very large debate has happened about this. call your service provider and get the true answer before you find out the hard way. it took me 4 phone calls and i'm still trying to clear up the problem. cannot get a straight answer between tmo and their supposed BB specialist. hope this helps

The application is FREE yes, but you may get charged for SMS usage if you don't have an unlimited SMS plan. Or atleast thats how i understand it.
