Default Red LED Flashing 4 Times? Help!

Please Login to Remove!

Hi, I just got a Pearl, and as the title says, when I plug it in with the battery, the red LED flashes 4 times consecutively. Is it just that the battery is completely drained or am I screwed?
Thanks

so, sounds like you can't take it back to the store. =(
40 min seems like it should be good enough to at least have it come on.
your friend didn't mention any dropping or swimming excursions it may have taken?

Have you removed the battery and placed it back in?

Is the battery yellow? Must be yellow.

Some people have tried to use old batteries from the 7100 model [which are black].

Also, try charging it from the USB port on your PC.

were you able to see it working before this?
have you pulled the battery to try to reset it? check the connections and general condition of the battery then too!
the only other thing I can think to do is leave it charge over night then wipe and reload the OS tomorrow.
sucks. :(

The last time it was used (the 1 1/2 wks ago) it said low batt. on the screen.
I did oull the batt. (yes, it's the yellow one) and it does the same.
I tried connecting it to a comp. when i first plugged it in, windows recognized it in the USB, but Blackberry DM didn't find one in the usb port.

This isn't looking to good :(

thats the code for fried ROM. when the ROM flashes codes like that most of the time it means its fried ... that BB is no good sorry to say sounds like it got fried some how. Best bet is to try and have him return it or warranty it through the provider he bought it from. you might try using JL_CMD and wipe the BB and then reload the OS but thats a long shot.

1 - Do your normal Backup, if you choose to not lose everything in the process (I will assume you are familiar with the process if you've chosen to move on forward with Step 1, so I won't elaborate any further).

2 - Download and Install the latest OS version for your handheld (if my list is NOT updated, then do NOT use the BlackBerry.alx file I have provided - a simple PM to me with a note concerning the updated version will be sufficient for me to update my listings above). The download URL is provided above under each device/series, listed as Installation Download.

3 - Delete the Vendor.xml file from C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader (this needs to be done AFTER Step 2, although that should not need to be stated).

4 - Rename the BlackBerry.alx file located in your Installation Path (see above for full path name; varies for each handheld software installation).

5 - Download and extract the BlackBerry.alx file from the associated ZIP file for your handheld. This is listed above as BlackBerry.alx Download.

6 - Open Desktop Software 4.1 and upgrade/update your handheld.

search for one of the OS upgrades and you will usually find instructions if these don't help you. try HERE. same goes for JL_CMD.
good luck and let us know if you save it!

Your friend may have screwed you over, even when my batteries are completely drained, I can plug it in and start using it again. Try the long shot and whiping + reloading... if it still doesn't work... complain to your friend about a refund. If he doesn't give you one.... that my friend means.. he is not your friend.

I have a pearl that would exhibit similar behavior. I'm not certain why, but I reseated the SIM card in the device, put the battery back in, and voila, it took a charge and booted up shortly thereafter.

Again, I have NO idea why removing and reinstalling a sim would have any effect on the charging of a battery.

Good luck.
