Default 7130e verse the 8703e

Please Login to Remove!

I was looking at getting the 7130e and when I was at the Alltel store I saw the 8703e and the manager had her personal one and I played with it for 30 mins or so. I liked both, but I am worried about the keys layout on the 7130e. Is it hard to get used to. This would be my first BB and don't want to get the wrong one and screw up my experience. I am also worried about the size of the 8703e. Can anyone give me some advice on which one is better?

Only you can decide which is better. It just depends on how you plan to use it.

Personally, I prefer the QWERTY keyboard of the 87xx series. If you will be doing a lot of email and/or Text messages, you may prefer that format over the 71xx. Also, the 7130 is old technology, the 8100 is a step up from the 71xx series.

You also need to make sure you will have proper coverage where you will be using the device - where you live, work, travel and play. Neither is any good if you don't have a signal.

The coverage is good, I am just worried about how big the 8703 feels. I have a flip phone and the 8703 seems big, but seems some what good in my hands. They both feel good, but the 7130e feels more like a phone.

Here is my history with blackberry's.

I started off with the 8700c, and decided I didn't like how big it was. I am a small girl so it was like holding a wallet to my head.

Then I went to the 7130c, loved the size but was not really all that excited about sure type. I didn't like having to double check my messages. Ha.

Then I went to the 8100 pearl, which was great, but once again I got tired of suretype. I am now going to get the 8703e. I decided to get over the fact it is big. It would be easier for me to write out messages.

So my advice is compare your preference of using a qwerty keyboard vs. size. If your going to be a heavy typer maybe the 8703e is better. If your using it for the phone and not so much the typing, then maybe the smaller one.

Unfortunately, like all say...definitely personal preference.

Thanks for the help. I guess I will have to bite the bullet and make a decision.

Here's a good gauge for me...if you are a heavy email user, then definitely go with the 8703e. The QWERTY keyboard layout will be an advantage there. If your email usage is moderate to light (checking emails but not really responding), then the 7130e will be fine.

I have a 7130e and love the suretype keyboard and the form factor. Suretype did take a little time to get acclimated to it. Now that I have, I can type more quickly on my BB than I can on my laptop! However in the end, it all boils down to personal preference, the good news is that you can't go wrong either way!

Had the 7105t with TMO. Suretype was easy to get used to . Have the 8703e with VZW and love the Q keyboard . The learning curve is not that steep for the Suretype. I do a lot of emailing on mine so I am a little faster with the Q but ST still works.

I like my 7130e mainly for the size. I didnt want something that was very big. I think both are good phones just depends on if you like suretype or not.

Wirelessly posted (7130e: BlackBerry7130e/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/105)

I have a 7130e and I'm a heavy instand messager. So I can't wait to upgrade to the 8703e. If it had a camera that would make it even better.

This is definitely true. I can't stand SureType (and don't understand complaints about the size of the 8700 series or the 7290's and older models). YMMV. Others leave it and swear by it. I'd say just give it a good test and decide before your trial period is up.
