Default Changing names on Domino mail servers

Please Login to Remove!

Our Domino 6.5.1 mail servers are being consolidated and the names are going to change. We're not consolidating the BES, but how will it react? Will it pick up on the changes?

If the Domino server name will change it will reflect your BES since BES is relying on the Domino name for its links .

You may experience a certain downtime on your BES since you will have to update the new consolidated name/s on BES itself. I would concider advising your users of a certain downtime . then shut down the services, update names and restart services . Hmmm.

Default BES looks at the Person Doc, so no changes necessary

The BES uses the Person doc UNID to find the Person Doc Infomation, then it uses these fields:
- first name
- last name
- domain
- mailfile
- mailserver
- Internet address if there is one.

I had this issue once:
A Users Person Doc was deleted from the Domino Directory and re-created. It seems the BlackBerry must use the NoteID of the Person Doc to find each BlackBerry User. As the Users Person Doc was deleted and re-created, then his NoteID changed and hence his Mail to BlackBerry stopped. This is a very unusual experience and I don't think this will happen again unless their Person Doc is deleted again!!

FYI:
And for address lookup:
The Remote Address Lookup feature uses the native Domino NameLookup API to return data from the Domino Directory. The views it searches are ($VIMPeople) and ($VIMPeopleByLastName).
