Default Feb. 12th in stores?

Please Login to Remove!

So what's the official info (if there even is such a thing) about Feb. 12th? Will the 8800 be available IN STORES on Feb. 12th, or just "officially announced" on Feb. 12th?

My TMO rep (so take it with a grain of salt) says that they will be SKU'd up in the system and 'orderable' on the 12th. Not sure what that means in terms of in store availability, but if he order them on the 12th, then I should be holding one on the 15th......ASSuming he is right!

In my extensive experiene reps are full of crap, and they always make promises they don't deliver on. Remember a reps job is to wet your appetite and sell you a concept. They should all be shot in my opinion.

haha AGREED. I trust store reps about as far as I can throw them.

But here's another question for you all. What's the big fuss whether Cingular or T-Mobile gets the first product? Why not just unlock the device and use it on the other network?

Actually, there MIGHT be a reason to not unlock and use on another network. I did this with a 7130g, which I am using on Tmo. Problem is, since it isn't an "offically supported device," Tmo doesn't have all the service books to send me. The result is only being able to use the WAP browser, not the Blackberry browser, I can receive MMS, but cannot open any multimedia attachment, etc. Its some reduced functionality, and it is a bit annoying. In my case, i had to have an EDGE upgrade to my 7105t,that I took the plunge anyway.

In the case of the 8800, you could buy an ATTingular unit, unlock it, and use it with the reduced functionality until Tmo adds it to the lineup and get ALL the service books later.

My next Berry is going to be an 8800, but I will wait for the T-Mo edition (hopefully with WIFI and the camera) because I don't want to lose any functionality again. Besides, I am eligible for an upgrade

Speaking of which, I'm going to be in Seattle that weekend. I'm pretty sure Seattle being a bigger city than I live in (even though I do live in the largest city in Kansas) would have first choice at newest products.

Anywho, do you think it would be worth my time to call the Seattle T-Mobile stores and check if they have availablity? Or should I just show up when I'm there?

Or maybe somebody in Seattle would know more than me and could contribute and help me out.

Thanks

I think that NJB knew all to well about the 8800, he was simply letting another person know.

Did they give you an unofficial arrival date?

So we're still relying on "unofficial" news regarding the Feb. 12th date eh. Not cool.

Until RIM or our favorite carrier makes an announcement, all are just rumors!

That's odd but I guess TMO never released their own version of the 7130? I guess I've never had problems unlocking a device and using it on either TMO or Cingular since I've always used models that were common to both carriers...

This is exactly what I'm worried about, specifically the GPS. Does anyone know if the 8800's GPS capabilities are dependent on the carrier? I'm thinking about buying a cingular 8800 and trying to use it on t-mobile, is the GPS likely to work?
