Default what do you think about the Pearl.

Please Login to Remove!

I have been thinking of moving into the Pearl because of the good reviews I have heard, but i have also read bad reviews of bad signals and that sort of stuff. I was looking at getting the Pearl from T-Mobile. Does anyone have any things to say about it. I am starting college this year and would like a nice BB that is good in every way. I was looking at the palms but read a lot of bad stuff and i have always liked BB more. I was also looking at the 8800 but too expensive right now for me.

How is the call signal on the pearl?

Default Works fine for me

I am new to Blackberry and only moved over from a Windows device because of the push email as Cingular's Xpress mail stinks. I am a school principal and other than the phone and email I also use the mp3 player and camera as well. I have no issues with the signal and everything works perfectly. I wish SPB made today software for the BB but that is probably my only complaint. Great phone, glad I made the switch. I have had Symbian devices (P800, P900), Windows devices (SMT 5600, HTC 8125) and this is the best phone I have owned. I really enjoyed the Sony P900 and the HTC 8125, but the size of this phone is what got me to try BB. I miss the slide out keyboard of my 8125 but SureType sold me, and I am not going back.

Default Cingular

Cingular and the BB package, not sure what it entails, but it is unlimited. I also add $5 per month for the 200 text messages. I dont use that many so I may drop that. I actually saved money moving from the 8125 to the BB package, about $10 a month iirc.

Personally I love the Pearl. Its my first BB and smartphone. What really sold me to the phone were the small size and looks.. You can pretty much do anything you want on the phone and easily too.. Theres also alot of software you can download for free. Currently I have the family plan TMO w/ unlimited internet and UNLMTD TEXTS. its about $65-70 individually.. Not to mention you can also use the phone's internet as a Modem on your laptops or desktops...

I wish the BB Pearl has wifi enable, but this is a different story.

If BB devices have wifi, then who cares about BB Data plan? Right?

I think you may be referring to using the email addresses provided in another post in order to send text messages for free. If so, just keep in mind that the free email method only works for outgoing messages and if they happen to reply to your email instead of creating a new message. You will still be charged for incoming messages (even if your friends use the email method because the recipient of the email will receive the message as text) so you may want to get the minimum text package which is $5.

I have a Pearl with T-mobile and I love it. I have had planty of phone before I normally chnage phones every 6 months, but with the Pearl i can honestly say that I am very happy and I thinking about just keeping it for a while until it dies on me. I love the internet features, they are just the best. The Pearl is like my best friend.

The Pearl is a great phone. It is my 3rd BlackBerry and its looks and size are the Pearl's strong selling points. Not to mention the fact that I use its MP3 player to listen to music and podcasts, even put full lenght movies on it.

Once you get used to SureType, you'll be okay. I'd say it takes about a week to feel comfortable with it. Heck, I'm posting this from my Pearl!

A Bunch O' Newbie Questions ...

1. Do you use the native MP3 player?
2. Are there other choices for MP3 players?
3. Any special trickery needed to listen to podcasts?
4. Do you upload from desktop to Pearl or download to phone directly?
5. What's the best source for podcasts?
6. What do you need to watch movies on the Pearl (software, memory)?
7. Where do you get the movies?

Thank you!

pab1953, hello....here are my answers:

1. Yes, I use the native MP3 player
2. I'm sure there are but for the little use that I need it for, the native one is perfectly fine. Maybe someone else can chime in on whether there is a better alternative via software out there?
3. No
4. I download the podcasts through iTunes, then I get the mp3 file from the iTunes folder and drop it on my 1GB card using mass storage. I have a folder named Podcasts within my music folder
5. iTunes
6. For converting movies, I used BlackBerry Video Converter (download here: Seabyrd Technologies - Blackberry Video Converter)
7. You can convert any DVD and many types of video (mpeg, mp4, avi, wmw)

Hope that helps!
