It sounds like you may have an IT policy on your device restricting you. Do you know what all your IT policy restricts on your device?

I guess it doesn't work, then. That function has only been in the OS since 4.2.

Someone posted up above in this thread that ALT-CAP-DEL will reset the 8700, though.

You don't need it on an 8700...you can reboot from the keypad...the Pearl cannot.

Default soft reset for 7100i

Does anyone have a link to software for a soft reset on the 7100i?

Google told me this: "On a BlackBerry 7100 model, you can perform a reset by pressing Alt-RightShift-Backspace" -- try that, does it work? (just trying to help)

Click Cancel instead if you run the app but don't actually want to reset.
I find this a little hard to believe. Regardless of all of these complaints on the Pearl, RIM has not done anything to resolve it, but instead a BB user like yourself have come up with partial solution (which I think is great , btw). Hello, RIM, is this issue being addressed at all? Many Fortune 500 execs carry BB's, but how are these big corporate guys coping with losing their emails? I guess 8700 and other models don't share this problem, and this may be unique to the Pearl.

As for this software,

Let me try to understand this. So your software will only replace the process of battery removal, AFTER call logs and messages have ALREADY disappeared, right? With your great programming ability, will you be coming out with a software that would get down the core problem to nip it in the bud?

This is my 3rd Pearl, and it is doing it again after 2 weeks. This has the OS .71 which people say is the latest. This problem is quite annoying. I can't afford to lose my important SMS texts and call logs.

Cheers

Great first post! This has nothing to do with Metsfan's app or this thread.

There are lots of threads out there regarding your problem. I have a Pearl, with tons of aftermartket apps, pictures, etc. and don't lose emails and phone call logs. When that happens it's usually a memory problem. How much memory do you have free?

You can search for "memory leak" on the forums and pull up lots of info on this issue.

Thanks.

I think my comment to the programmer asking questions about the benefits of his program warrant my post being here

This is my 3rd Pearl. And I had this one for approx. 2 weeks. Right after this leak kicked in this afternoon, I checked the memory, and it was at 5881048 Bytes. I did a battery pull, and now at 15881048 Bytes.

I'm glad that some of you don't share this problem.

Cheers.

Metsfan, you're a genius.

It works well. At least, this will resolve wear-and-tear issues with the back cover after each memory leak occurrence.

I have it on mine and it does work well but it's one more app taking up your valuable space right now. Your issue is memory. I posted in another thread what to do. You need to shed....That's what causes your messages to drop.

Thanks for the tip. I'm thinking that clearing even logs may help shed.

Cheers.

FYI this APP does work on the 8800 as well !!! Was glad as I liked it on my 8100, some other 3rd party apps that I had on the 8100 have had some issues with the 8800 but I guess thats to be expected until developers catch up.
