Yeah! I like the privacy of locally basaed/embedded spellchecker. Server-based spellcheckers in theory send all your language to some "anonymous" server....NO privacy

Why doesn't every carrier take the initiative like Sprint/Nextel and offers????

Have you got BBspell working on an 8800?

From the 8300 reports I've seen, it looks like RIM finally included a spell check with the OS. So, assuming we'll be able to upgrade the OS to 4.2 in the handheld, that should solve the problem.

I have been using bbspell. I wouldn't say it's great because it takes time to load up fpr each check and covers much of the text; one the other hand, I think it generally works.

FYI, the issue is actually a bug in the BB 4.2 OS that ended up breaking bbSpell.

The new bbSpell 2.2 software also adds a significant new feature - Autocheck. This enables bbSpell to automatically initiate a spell check whenever a message is sent (vs having to select "Check Spelling" each time). Autocheck can be enabled/disabled in the application settings.

Back in touch soon....

Any progress on a version of bbSpell that works with BB OS 4.2 (BB 8800)?

Anybody know when RIM will be releasing this upgrade?

I've also been beta testing BBSpell on the 8800, and I have to say I am very disappointed in the autocheck feature. It fails about 33% to 50% of the time.

What's more, the somedevelopers team have not have the curtosy to respond to my emails reporting the issues to them.

It's unfortunate, as I am responsible for supporting blackberries at my organization, and have been responsible for 3 installs (and license purchases) on the 8800s I have gotten in so far. With this response and the issues we've encountered, I am not going to recommend this solution to anyone else.

I too am having trouble with BBSpell on my 8800. I have called numerous times, left messages and emailed to somedevelopers without the courtesy of a single response. Not a good start. Looks like it is time to try a different solution.

why is everyone still trying bbspell if it has problems when the free bbcorrector has worked fine for me from day 1. is there some feature in bbspell everyone needs not in bbcorrector?

Inphektion to answer your question, I was using BBSpell on the 8700 without any issues. When I upgraded to an 8800, I naturally wanted to use the same product I had used previously. Not to mention that I had purchased a license for BBSpell, and I want to get my $'s worth.

In addition, the "Autocheck" feature for this new version looked very attractive on paper. In practice, it does not work a LOT of the time.

To be fair, BBSpell works well on the 8800 if you disable the "autocheck" feature (which, by the way is the default setting).

I'd love to see this feature get fixed in the official release. Either that, or Somedevelopers should kill it entirely. I have some other suggestions for them that may alleviate or at least obfuscate some of the issues they are encountering, if they would reach out to me, but they are probably too busy trying to make their product work...

After my license runs out, I will re-evaluate using them again, given their lack of support.

That's what I did. When my license expired, I voted with my dollars and chose not to renew. I'm using bbcorrector now. I'll consider reevaluating if and when the new version of bbspell makes it to production. We've been hearing "coming soon" from somedevelopers for months.
