Default Increase file size limit

I am trying to use an mp3 as a ringtone but using the desktop manager there seems to be a file size limite of 2.86mb. Most of my MP3s are bigger than that so I can't transfer them. Is there anyway to change this?

Nope; the answer is to get a microSD card and move anything you want to there.

Depends on what size you get, i.e. 1 GB etc.

Well the limit right now is actually 2 gb with an upgraded OS. I know there are no 2 gb songs out there.

Well vids are almost always bigger than songs/ringtones.

Back on topic folks...
With a microSD card you are only limited by the total storage on the card.

There is not a way to change this, however the Pearl does support MicroSD cards. The current limit on these cards is 2gb. I got a 1gb Kingston from Newegg for under $15 including shipping. It works great and there is no filesize limit.

Wow, that's weird. When I opened this thread it said there were no responses. And the first post was the only one on the page. So I replied and when it refreshed I saw the other replies from earlier today.

The simplest way to use an MP3 as a ring tone is to simply edit the MP3 to a smaller size file. You don't need 3 minutes of music as a ring tone. Just use one of the many (free editors) available and choose the first 20- 30 seconds, then save it as <songname> ring tone. Pop that into your BB and you're set.

I have done this on everything from Mozart's Requien to some very cool Mose Allison blues.

I never get someone else's ring confused with mine.

There is a nice FREE online site called MIXXER that allows you to upload, trim, edit and so on with music and pictures then send them to your phone. Messaging costs apply.
