Having recently used them both it really boils down to what you want out of the device.... The above posts lists the main differences...

Are you going to type out a lot of emails? Do you want a camera? Do you want GPS? Do you want a smaller form factor or a full qwerty keyboard?

8100 Pros:
Size, camera

8800 Pros:
Qwerty, GPS, larger screen

8100 Cons:
Suretype, no GPS, smaller screen

8800 Cons:
Size, no camera

Im not sure what the big to do is about suretype v.s keyboard. The suretype in the 8100 works great, I can spit out emails as fast, if not faster, then my 8700g model.

If memory is the same, the winner in my opinion is the Pearl based on it's size and price point.

At tmobile, the 8800 is 549.00, 349 with a new agreement, v.s 199 for the pearl which does the same thing and adds a camera.

GPS on your phone is a tad overrated, as most business travelers by car own independent GPS services (I have a Magellan).

I could see if the processor was much faster, but as far as I can tell, they are the same specs.

He assumed it was in response to him listing Suretype under a Con, which regardless of what he said at the beginning, personally I think is a bad choice since some people prefer Suretype. Nobody would prefer a small screen over a larger one so that makes sense there. Leave the Suretype alone!
