Default Worth upgrading from Pearl to 8800?

Please Login to Remove!

Im thinking of upgrading the 8800 is it worth it? the only thing i dislike about the pearl is the screen for me is too small to surf the web on..

Is the 8800 very bulky? whats different about it then the pearl and i take it that there is no camera?

8800 has no camera, but it has built-in GPS which I find very useful. As you pointed out, larger screen is better for web and almost everything else. I really like the Pearl's size/weight though, and still carry it every weekend. But for times when business communications is the priority, 8800 is a better solution for me.

as BB-admin in my company i've been working with the 7210, 7290, 8700 and 8707 before and i must say that the the improvements versus these models are

the batterylife is bether then for the 87xx series which is a serious plus,
the screen is also bether then the 87xx series.
i don't know if the GPS is really such a big added value, especially because it downloads its maps over GPRS, so if you will use it for a longer period, and you have an expensive data plan, i don't suggest to use it very often....
it has its advantages if you compare it to the previous models, but i wouldn't specially buy this model when i would already have a recent model such as the pearl....
hope this helps you....

regards

I have an 8800, which replaced an 8100. It is the first "upgrade" that I've done that I don't see the clear benefits in. Yes, the screen is larger. And while the keyboard is full sized (QWERTY) I am making far too many typing mistakes. I am not sold on the 8800.

More mistakes than when you used the pearl? That's surprising to me.

8100 to 8800 is really more of a sidestep than an upgrade. You're really just moving from SureType to full qwerty (yes, and GPS too) but it's not like moving from a 7100 to an 8800 which would be a "real" upgrade.

i am finding that I use the gps more often than the camera of my pearl.
Moreover, I have big hands so the fact that of doing IM and bb messnger easier since I do it often is great!

is one of your main uses for internet browsing?, i think i'td be wise to upgrade, for one, its slightly thinner(unless you dont care) bigger screen, yes, and its got a full keyboard instead of the Sure type that the pearl offers, thats a big improvement i thought, plus you dont really need a camera in my oppinion

How would you rate the general sturdiness of the two (pearl vs. 8800)? I currently have a 7130e and these are my 2 upgrade considerations.

GPS over camera did it for me. I never use a camera on my phone and I really am liking TeleNav.

Another thing that I did not dig about the Pearl was email addresses wrapping to a second row due to the smaller screen. Coming from the 7250 I did not like that.

I switched from a Pearl to the 8800. I don't care about the camera or GPS. I carry it in my pocket w/ no case (just best skins ever) and the added size doesn't bother me. I had one major reason for switching:

I HATE SURETYPE. I HATE IT SO MUCH. AAAAHHHHH.

Seriously?! Wow. I love typing on my SureType, but then again I've never used any full qwerty BB unit.

> Is the mistakes do to the 8800 keyboard edged keys or is it due to long usuage on the SureType 8100? Last question ... with a stereo wired headset on the 8800 does it auto activate Voice Signal all the time? This drives me insane on the Pearl.

Similar build, but the sides creak on the 8800(well documented) and they do not on the 8100. The 8800 has a brighter screen though.
