Exclamation How to play AVI's on Pearl 8100???

Please Login to Remove!

I was told that even if your video is already AVI that you will still have to convert it to AVI again so that it can play on the BB Pearl... I have not problem saving it to my phone but its when I go and click on the video when on the BB Pearl player it says "error" so what now???

That doesn't answer my question on how to convert AVI's... I have read that but that is only to play them on your PC...

Go to the sticky above and look for BB Video Converter, it's free and works like a charm.

Then you did not read carefully because the Sticky specifically talks about how to convert videos so they will play on the Pearl.

You are making the error lots of people make, they assume that because the video has an "AVI" extension that it should play on the Pearl. But they will not, you have to convert them into Pearl format.

The Sticky provides a link to the free converter program. Read carefully and you will find it.

Sidenote for others whom might read your post: The MicroSD chip is like any other chip. For transport or storage you can put any file you want on the chip: PDF, DOC, etc. However, just because you can put a file on the chip does not mean the Pearl can open it for use.

the pearl does NOT play avi format. Have had the same problem, not that id want to watch a video on the pearl, just testing the specs, and so playing avi format is misleading, and incorrect.

Also, I understand saying use the search funtion, but common, if this phone is supposed to play avi formats, then why not spam our commuinity.

Why the hell should there be a "black berry convereter"

Dont buy the pearl if you want multi media, just dont. They dont even give you stereo headsets with it, so you need to find and buy a 2.5mm stereo head set jack.

The pearl fails and fails miserably as a mulitmedia device. My head phones dont fit, my videos dont play, because their not blackberry avi format. The video player itself sucks, no full screen mode.

If you would have bothered to read before jumping to conclusions, you may have learned that AVI is a container format for various codecs and means absolutely nothing in terms of supporting playback. Think of it as an envelope containing a document in a specific language. Just because you know how to open the envelope of a certain type, does not mean you know how to read the document contained within because it might be in Japanese (in case you can read Japanese, use some other obscure language here). Likewise, if you have an AVI that contains a video stream encoded with XviD+AC3, the Pearl does not have native support for it.

The BlackBerry is and always was meant to be a secure communication device that can be used in business and it does this very well. The camera and media playback capability was added on later and you should just be glad it does this at all. Would you whine because a TV that's built into a refrigerator doesn't support HDMI, 1080p, 7.1 surround, and lacks DVR capabilities? If you want a media player, get one of the products from iRiver, but don't complain that it can't make calls or receive email.

cool, i bet you had to run them through 3rd party software to get them to work, and thats lame. If i was the ceo of blackberry id start asking questions as to why my customers had to do that.

I am taking deep breaths, I like the pearl alot, for what it is, rim doesnt have the know how or connections to produce a device that can play video.

Common.

That is a good point & might be why the new desktop manager has roxio. It looks like you can drop in and it will convert for you. Now I'm not a big fan of roxio but many here have said it works well. This will allow you to drop in your avi's and they should convert to your BB. Give it a try.
If you go to google & search for "RIM desktop manager download" you will find the RIM site with the newest desktop software. Beware, it's a big file ..set it to download over night & try again the next day!

I have been there and back. I can do like you tubes and all that, but there are some dvd's that are just a night mare. I found pulling them from the disc on to the hard drive is best, for this I use dvdshrink. The i use vob merge to merge all the files to 1, and then bb video converter. So far 2 out of 9 work.

I have had no success when pulling straight from the dvd.

I have some tips for you:

1. Please see my avatar.

2. Sell the phone, ASAP. Or return it if you can.

3. Buy an iPhone.

*end tips*
