8300 battery
Please Login to Remove!
Had my curve for 3 days now and the battery on medium usage barely makes it 12 hours. I have JiveTalk running basically all day but I dont use it as a phone just data.
This normal or what should be done?

Well any data transfer and running programs are going to drain the battery. Try doing a battery reset and close JiveTalk and see if you'll notice any difference with battery life.

Yea. Unfortunately data connections drain the battery more than the normal phone usage will.

So pretty much my best bet is to get an extended battery or another spare battery?

how much worse is the 8300 battery life than the 8800?? what's the average battery life for the 8300 and 8800 assuming regular usage (say couple hours talk time per day, not having im programs running in the background, couple dozen txt, maybe an hour of music listening...)?
have an 8300 on the way... but if the battery life is half of what the 8800 is... i might have to return and consider the 8800 (or 8820)...
cheers

Spare battery is a good idea. I also have a car charger & a charger at my desk at work. With phones like that, you have a lot more going on, and especially if you use features such as blue tooth music & jivetalk ect its a good idea to plug it in when you can as your battery will run down alot quicker than if you only used it as a phone + email.

You best bet is to turn off Jive Talk unless you are using it!

There was another thread re: battery life - I know this thread starter said they had their BB for only a few days. The other thread indicated that after about 1-2 weeks of charge - drain - recharge the battery life improved tremendously and I can absolutely validate that. I don't use mine for multimedia but the data connection is pounding away and I use it for a phone, and I now get 3-5 days without going near a charger. It did however take that few weeks to get it there. Initially I couldn't get through 1 day without it dying on me.
Hope that helps...

Maximum Battery Life - BlackBerryFAQ
You shouldn't drain your battery completely all the time, that is not a good practice. Top off the charge anytime you get a chance.
About once a month or so, drain your battery to 10-15% to reset the meter, so to speak.

Battery life on the 8800 is great. I use jivetalk and normal voice and usually charge every 3rd day.

Good clarification - I shouldn't assume that when I said "drain" folks would know I didn't mean completely - I use mine until it is in the red zone - about 15% - then recharge.

My 8300 lasts nowhere near as long as my 8800 does. However, it will still allow me at least two days per charge and maybe three with light use. In comparison, with the 8800 I end the first day with 80% or more battery left if I use very little of the GPS and might not need to charge for 4 or more days (even though I usually charge it more often in the event I need to use it heavily).
As a note, I am only using the Blackberry with the programs and applications it came with. Nothing has been added at all...

So, what are your primary uses for your blackberry? How often are they used?

My curve lasts for days
I use it heavily for emails/phone/games/web browsing/mp3 player for my 1 hour+ commute

I get about 2 1/2 days on a single charge. I think this is just indicative of my usage pattern because that's about how much I got on my 7130c and how much I get with my Pearl, now, too. I guess I'm pretty consistent with my usage.
Let's see, I've had mine for two months now, use it for phone, emails, messaging and some web use. Haven't really gotten into using the media stuff but I did play some tunes a few weeks ago to get the battery down from 25 percent to 15 percent, then charged it up.
I wonder, though, does it matter how you charge it? Does one get better results using the wall charger vs the data cable? I typically charge my phone up at night using the data cable and laptop so I can have the phone near me while it's charging. People always seem to call when it's charging. Heh.
