Default Blackberry Users: reply and send e-mails 8X faster using voice

Please Login to Remove!

I am going to offer a paid for application&service where Blackberry users would be able to send and reply to e-mails naturally using their voice instead of typing whenever convenience/speed is an issue (voice is about 8 times faster...2min typing = 15 seconds of speaking). The e-mail will be delivered, in on average 45 seconds, with the voice msg transcribed accurately and formatted appropriately. It could likewise be used to send reminders to self etc. I have a Pearl 8100 and I can't wait for the service to go live 24/7.

It will work like this on the BB device: select/open an e-mail, open the context menu and simply choose "reply with voice". Then you would hear an audible beep and speak you message. That is it...easy!

I have a simple 4 question survey that will take at most 30 seconds to reply to. I have really no other way to survey Blackberry users other than to directly ask for this help (I need it for my investors). Whether interested or not your responses are very helpful me, so please do my poll:

If you have ever tried to launch a business that involves a new technology, you know how hard it is to get the market research part done. So please help me make BB even better by doing this survey.
If you are interested in this service then your positive response will make the service available faster as the product is ready only awaits funding round to complete. Also, if you fill out my survey I will give you a $10 credit towards the service when it launches (first 200 respondents). If you are interested in seeing a demo of how it works, send me an e-mail at [email address] with "send me BB demo" in the subject line.

Thank you.

It looks like you will charge a monthly fee? Maybe a one-time fee but not monthly. Maybe some power users would be interested but I don't believe the general population would pay that much. JMHO.

I (and probably others) would be interested in some info on it. I'm assuming the voice processing is not done on the Blackberry, but goes to a server that you host? You would also need to show what benefits your service provides over ones already on the market such as Nuance VoiceControl.

Frankly I'm a bit nervous about my e-mails being sent to a third party for processing other than RIM. If you somehow do the processing on the device, that would potentially be huge, but I don't see how Blackberrys would be able to do that. Nuance charges $6 per month and I don't think there is a maximum number of requests per month and do more than email.

I don't work for them or am a customer, but thought it might be helpful to you to see what is out there currently.

dpeters11, what will differentiate my service from that of Nuance Voice Control, I believe, will be that it is very accurate, very expedient to use (especially for BB), and the e-mail will arrive quickly. There is also no minimum nor maximum limit on the e-mail length. You will be billed with per second granularity, so it will be a very fair value proposition to the BB user. It will also be seamlessly usable on the PC if one wants it there.

The issues with the Nuance Voice Control solution mainly are attributed to the fact that it is machine transcription only. Computers can't understand context, filter out noise, adjust to accents or changes in voice... That is not to say that a process that utilize humans and speech recognition won't work now and that is precisely how my service works. We've researched and developed a process that takes the best of both worlds and puts it into practice in a way that is highly scalable, secure, and pretty darn efficient.

Getting back to Nuance's product, the main issues that people that have used it are reporting is that it is slow to use, slow to recognize and not overly accurate. Satisfaction level is low. People are going to need to pay a premium for my service but it is going to work, be fast and be accurate. And when you consider how long it really takes to key in an e-mail, the cost is very much offset by the time savings. You can look at what the users say about the Nuance product by searching on:

I would love this. I liked Voice Control EXCEPT it was a little slower than I wanted (folks go bberry for speed) and I did not like the monthly fee. This is invaluable for people who have health issues that affect their hands.

Default Survey is legitimate

No, this thread, and my survey, is not spam, nor an attempt to generate traffic. I used a free service for creating the survey, and they have some google ads.

I just completed the survey. I'm not interested at all in paying a monthly fee for such a service, although I love the concept.

However I presently have the same features available to me free of charge, though it is a beta service currently and most likely will have a free service as well as a premium service when it goes live.

Yes JMac, there is another company with a free service that is beta. I think I know whom you are referring to. People do like them, however this is what I note:

1) They are offering a free service which they plan to monetize
later. This means they are most likely having to rely on cheap labor offshore, which has its issues.
They must eventually make it a paid service or develop an ad based
model.
2) Transcription time is pretty slow, user report transcription times
ranging from several minutes, to ten minutes, to an hour or more.
3) Message length is limited to 30 seconds.
4) To send an e-mail by voice you must have your contact list in
their database and use their call-in number. Extra steps
