Default SIM Card Orientation

Please Login to Remove!

My first trip abroad, and GSM mode is not working! Damned VZW must've screwed up the provisioning. After a few e-mails to CS, it turns out that the SIM card was inserted backwards by the Wireless Zone store.

When you get your SIM card, make sure the notched corner is visible after it's inserted into the slot...

Happily receiving e-mail now in Hong Kong.

Isn't there a graphic by the SIM card slot showing where the notch should be? Every GSM BB I've had has had one IIRC...

There is but on the 8800, unless you are in excellent light you can not see it!

I actually broke a SIM card not realizing that you have to lift up on it just a hair to get it to slide in. The Bell guy almost dropped the phone when I told him. Guess it's time to stop pumping the iron. There isn't much direction on how to get the card inserted except for a small picture in the manual.

I just opened my 8830 and didn't see an orientation indicator. Is the 8830 physically different from the 8800?

Beyond that, the Wireless Zone rep installed the card initially, and I didn't think to check it until VZW confirmed that my SIM # was correct.

I noticed that the VZW FAQ specifically mentions the correct orientation. I guess I'm not the first!
