You know, Ive heard alot of complaining about the placement of the Micro SD slots on blackberrys. Behind the battery bla bla.

I actually think thats a better position than having a external slot. Given that the 8100 can act as a usb drive, its superior.. more durable. No need for a port door, and mounted internally its less exposed.

Im dissapointed that the pearl 2 looks to have a slot on the side.

Based on what I've seen so far, I've got no interest in Pearl 2. But I do agree with your assessment on the card slot. Since I rarely have occasion to remove my card, I like having it behind the battery. Just makes the device look cleaner or smoother to me.

I agree with you. My wife used to have a MDA and card would pop out sometimes.my brother would have the same issue with his Treo. I really have no need to ever remove my card. In fact the last time I took my card out was to switch from 1 Gig to 2 Gig. I don't have a need to regularly swap in and out memory card so it's just fine as is.

agreed. The micro SD card itself is so fragile that it really shouldnt be flying around. Install it once and leave it that way is my philosophy.

I think this is a case of RiM listening a little too well to the commentators.

Agreed. I had a treo before when the card was on top. I hated how much dust it would collect when it was out and the card would always pop out on its own.

Couldn't agree more with regard to the external SD card.

I had a verizon Windows Mobile phone that had a mini-SD slot on the top and the phone could easily be put in position in the holster so that the spring-loaded mini-SD card would eject and fly several feet away.

Lost a 1GB card that way back when mini-SD was seriously expensive.

It's horrible idea to have an external slot.

It looks like this card slot has a rubber cover that keeps the card secure. When cards were limited to 2 GB and smaller, I could see the need for an external slot. Now, with 4Gb and up cards it creates less of a need for an external slot. The nice thing about it though, is that you can easily plug it directly into a card reader for transferring large files. While the card is in the phone it is extremely slow transferring files. It's much faster plugging it in directly.

Its not a bad idea if you want to use the card to transfer files from another source! BB is only USB 1.0 if I plug into my system its 2.0 and files fly onto the card.

Its better having it behind the battery, because im only going to remove it 2 upgrade to a 1 or 2 gig

I have the Pearl 8100 with AT&T and it is my second Pearl in a month. The first had problems with the SIM and SD slot... the second one only has SD issues... my phone will not recognize the SD card... ive tried cleaning, repositioning, etc..., to no avail... please help?!?!

No offense (well, maybe a little) ;) , but this thread made me laugh out loud...you guys sound like a bunch of little old ladies clucking to yourselves about how you would never trade your good old Oldsmobile for that new-fangled BMW.

Any Sneetch with a star on their belly can see that the the placement of the Micro SD card in the 8130/8120 is clearly superior over the placement under the battery.

The little door is secure and doesn't open accidentally (it is a little fragile feeling once opened, but in spite of that feeling it is plenty strong and has stood up to whatever twists and pulls I've applied to it.

Of course, I don't need to access the card much, but when I do I don't need to disassemble and turn off my Pearl to take it out or put it back in.

It doesn't get in the way of anything else on the case.

It's just plain more convenient...where do you guys keep your money, anyway, in your wallet, or in your sock?!
