Default Can not keep 8830 paired to Garmin Streetpilot

Please Login to Remove!

I am not able to keep my Garmin Streetpilot GPS connected to my 8830. It is a trusted device to the BB. It connects and then disconnects 15 secs later.

Any ideas?

Why do you need t have it paired since it is a stand alone GPS device? I must be missing something?

Sorry I forgot to add... the C550 has Bluetooth, so you can use it to make phone calls via the C550's speaker using your bluetooth phone.

I have the same issue with my Garmin 580 and my 8830. It constantly connects and disconnects. I'm wondering if I need to do an update to the GPS unit.

I got mine to work... here is what I did:

Go to Options/Bluetooth/ then select your device. Then select Device Properties. I disabled Encryption.

After disabling Encryption, my 8830 would stay paired with my C550. Let me know if this works for you.

Regards, Kevin

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm having the same problem with my C550 and Curve. It's sporadic. Sometimes it will stay connected fine, but more often than not it will drop the connection.

I've disabled encryption and will give it a shot on the drive home.

Thanks, Kevin. I've just disabled Encryption on my Curve. Later this morning I'll see how it works with my C550.

Kevin, I can't thank you enough! I disabled encryption and have been using it all day without any disconnection issues whatsoever. It was driving me nuts until now.

Default Spoke too soon - Darn!

Well, after Kevin's idea seemed to work perfectly for an entire day, today I encountered the exact same problem. Disconnects after 15-20 seconds. Crazy problem I would love to resolve once and for all.

If you used the web updater to update the C550, the problem lies there. I had the same issues with a few nuvi 660's and my 8830. The manual update works perfectly and updates to the same version, but doesn't update the voices, icons or traffic receiver. I'm suspecting the traffic receiver update is what's causing the issue but if you've done the update using the web updater, you can't revert back to an older version. You can't revert back no matter which way you update but a manual update doesn't seem to ever have this issue. I've tested this theory on 5 nuvi 660's and there's no question about what I'm saying. Call Garmin support and tell them...

If you haven't yet done so, do a (manual) firmware update on your C550; that may help.

Thanks for the tip. For me, it's too late - I used Web Update the minute I took the new unit out of the box. So, I've written Garmin Support and told them your story. Hope I don't get some canned response and somebody actually LOOKS at it. Again, I appreciate your input to this problem.

Let me know the results of your communication with Garmin. I just bought a Nuvi 680 and (of course) ran the software update on it before even putting it in my car. I paired the phone with it last night but have not made any calls yet.

Hope I am not in the same boat !!!

Same issue here. Worked for a day or so, now back to the same problem. I bought my wife a Blueant Supertooth II for her vehicle. I may pick up another one and use it in mine. I've been getting some complaints about people hearing me (which I attribute to mic distance from my mouth), so I may just keep the GPS for rarer navigation and get something more intended for telephony.

I have paired my garmin c580 and BB8830. In the setup it tells me its a c550 garmin which its not. Can I find the proper info from Blackberry to update it to a c580 on the phone?

I had the same problem and to fix it I changed the "Addrss Book Transfer" to "Hotlist only". It seems if you use more then one number for a contact the garmin doesn't know how to handle it. I think. But have had the problem since I did this. I have a Nuni 360 and a 8830.
