Default Key Lock?

Please Login to Remove!

Sorry guys - newbie question but how do you do the key lock on the 8300?

I did a search here and on google, and people said hit "Alt+Enter". By enter, do people mean the little down arrow thing? If so, that brings up a prompt to switch languages.

On my 8800, i hit "Num+K".

yes alt&enter will lock your keypad. Not sure why it brings up languages on your device.

another option would be to create a shortcut side key to lock up the BB.

What do you mean by "Enter"? Is that the button that has the arrow pointing down and to the left (and is located on the right side of the keybaord - equivileant to "enter" on a keyboard)?

I had this same issue. I had to tell the pop-up for the language to "Not allow this shortcut anymore". After that the ALT=Enter shortcut worked to lock the keypad

^^ exactly. Disable the Alternate Language input short cut at Options > Languages.

You can also lock the keyboard by tapping the K key, if dialing from homescreen is disabled... instructions here:

Here's a slightly different question related to locking- after I unlock the keypad on my 8820 using * + "send", the last application the cursor was on opens. Say for example I lock the phone while the orange cursor was over the address book icon. Then when I unlock it, it unlocks to the address book. I have to close it (or whatever application opens) to get back to the home screen. Not a huge deal, but slightly annoying. Has anyone else noticed this? Let me know if my explanation isn't clear.

Not directly in answer to your question, but here is a great little app that automatically locks your BB.

geek and proud - BlackBerry Software

It puzzles me that not one of the Blackberries that I have owned so far had a built in Auto-Lock function.
