New to the Forum and new to Blackberrys. I thought I read that you can charge your blackberry with the USB port? Got up today and the battery was dead. Any ideas?

Do you have Desktop Manager installed on the PC? BB will charge when DM is running...granting there are no other issues with the connection between BB and PC

Shouldn't it charge, however not at the correct level, without Desktop Manager installed? He should definitely install dm, just curious.

without DM, the BB does not get registered with the PC, hence the BB will not be configured correctly for use with the PC

Thanks guys. Desktop Manager was installed just didn't have it running. Didn't remember that part.

You need desktop manager to charge a BB? I thought a hot USB port was all that was required. On my 8800 I just plug in the mini-USB on the BB into a computer's USB port and I'm charging.

My Blackberry charges just fine without Desktop Manager running.

But, it is installed, correct? That is all that is needed. And actually all that is needed is the device drivers which are installed along with DM.

To the others: There has been much discussion on the Forum here about the matter, but without the drivers, the USB ports "may not" render the proper voltage for a proper charge to the USB. You may get the charge, you may not.
