I would recommend getting another media player application, the one from Dollars5 is decent and will do playlists. Look for details on it in the Aftermarket Software section of this board. I would not consider the 8100 a replacement for an iPod by any means.

You can't really compare the batteries between those two devices--the 8100 battery would be a better battery, however with meda apps and all, it would likely run down faster, anyway.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8700/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

Jsanders pretty much summed it up!

Mediplayer is nice to have on the fly but I still have my trusty ipod!

I loved my Pearl I want it back

I always hate these types of answers but it depends on how you use your ipod. The only thing I miss from my Nano is the lack of playlists. Other than that, there were small adjustments I had to make but after a few months, I really don't miss my Nano much at all. The sound quality is definitely comparable and the choice of headphones is not as great, but overall I would say that if you get a 4-6gb card, you can leave the ipod at home while traveling.

i'll never understand why people say that the pearl doesn't play playlists. i got my blackberry cause my ipod stopped working (and my sidekick 2 was beat) and have been using M3U playlists ever since.

i don't know, maybe my pearl is special

I didn't say the Pearl didn't do playlists. I said the app from Dollars5 DID have playlists, since that issue is important, and an earlier version of the RIM media player did not have playlists. It's all good.

right on J

and to more accurately answer you question, i love my pearl. i had a 4gig nano and never really used the 4gigs (i was always swapping music on and off it). so i got pearl with a 2gig microSD card, i haven't looked back.

and as far as battery life goes, its all kind of relative to what else you have running obviously. i use the media player A LOT, and i'm always signed into AIM, YAHOO, and Google talk so my battery life is pretty short. that problem could obviously be solved by signing off.

and what i "like/love" about it, JiveTalk, GMail (app), Opera Mini, and the media player. lol, its just a great device. no matter where i'm at and what i'm doing, if i get bored for an instant i've always got something to entertain me.

I have both and use my iPod nano if it's going to be an extended period of time and the Pearl for shorter listening. Twice the battery power!
