this is what my Blackberry Pearl says right under the carrier sign [AT&T] on the screen. I dont know what it means or what to do about it and I was hoping for advice.

Sounds like the SIM card isn't provisioned for BES/BIS. Have you been using the SIM card fine before?

You can do without or with, you decide what features you need.
