Default BlackBerry 83xx Curve + Other Phones

Does anybody here have other mobile phones that they use at times instead of their BlackBerry Curve? I have an 8310 coming (hopefully...) soon, but I have several other mobile phones that I would like the liberty of using at casual times...or whatever. I will be using a BIS Personal Unlimited Data Plan on my BlackBerry...or whatever it's called now.

Can I just take my SIM card out of my Curve and use it in any other GSM phone? Will I just be able to use the voice/phone capabilities of the phone I put the SIM into...or will I be able to use data on it too, to access email and do web browsing, etc?

Sounds like dumb questions...but they're important to me.

Depends on what phone you are using. There are some phones that you can set up to use the data from the Blackberry Unlimited Plan

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8700/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

Yes you can use the sim in another phone!

Data will likely not work but I am not certain! You will be able to sms!

I have taken my sim from my Curve in the past and placed it in my old Blackjack, and voice and data both worked fine.

I had been wondering this also. I figured it would work, but don't want to get charged for per kb usage b/c I don't have a normal phone plan with it.

Thanks guys/gals...

The main reason I ask is because I hate to carry my BB in my jeans or shorts if I am camping or at the lake, or just jacking around. I would rather use my Motorola V635 (still a great phone!) or another phone I have around the house. I'm just too afraid of messing my BlackBerry up...

Email/data would be nice to have available on those other phones...but it's not the end of the world if it won't work that way either.

On advice from my local T-Mobile rep (at a corp store), I tried popping my SIM from my Curve back into my MDA, and it works fine. The Blackberry unlimited plan works fine as an Internet unlimited plan for non-blackberry's.

When the SIM is in my MDA, I can still do email (Win Mobile 5 poll/pull email), IM and Web - no reconfiguration needed.

Very handy!

I switch between the Curve and the Nokia E61i quite often. What's even better, is that my Nokia has the capability to use the blackberry push email on the plan so i never miss a beat! I love both phones equally and would be sad to retire either one. For now, i'm happy with my smartphone tandem.
