Software For BlackBerry Curve 8300 (TM)

BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.2.2.321 (Chinese)

Package Version: 4.2.2.321
Consisting of:

* Applications: 4.2.2.175
* Software Platform: 2.4.0.77
* File name: 8300CJK_PBr4.2.2_rel321_PL2.4.0.77_A4.2.2.175_CSL. exe
* File size: 74.72MB
Download link: https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...B42B2DBB8F27B6

Installation Instructions:

1. Make sure you have the latest version of Desktop Manager installed. Currently, the latest version available is 4.3 and may be downloaded here: http://www.blackberry.com/go/softwaredownloads
Note: Desktop Manager 4.3 still has some issues. Desktop Manager 4.2 SP2 is recommended but 4.3 can be used if desired.

2. Download the above file to the PC then install it to the PC by running the file you downloaded.

3. Locate the vendor.xml file and delete it. It is located at C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research in Motion\Apploader

4. Plug in the BlackBerry and open Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization." Don't unplug from the PC & Don't remove the battery unless the spinning hourglass has been there for 30 minutes or more. If the hourglass has been spinning for more than 30 minutes continuously you will need to wipe the device with JL_Cmder (close out of Desktop Manager during this process.) You will then end up with a white screen with small icons and an error code number like 507 or 543.

If you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507/543, simply connect to DM again and run application loader again and it should load the OS to the device.

Well, you're no fun.

Haha, just kidding. I encourage the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" mentality ... for others, at least, as I can never resist throwing on even the most minor of updates.

I'm actually about to download this now and see if I can find any changes and differences (going to look for someone else's 8300 to load this onto).

Installed the new OS and I can't really tell any differences. Everything seems to be running just the same as it was before. I'll post if I find any new additions.

Geez Spencer... I've been looking around SO hard for 4.3.x for SO long that this is almost tempting, even tho the Sing Tel version (4.2.2.173 / 2.4.0.76) is barely two hair thicknesses away from it...

But no. The numbers are SO close that I can't imagine they could even squeeze release notes in between them. I love shiny new things, but 4.2.2.173 has been working SO well. I think I'll hold on a bit longer...

I know, it's heartbreaking. I wish we could get the 4.3.x ... I'm dying for 4.2.2 for even just my 8800, but I'd love the 4.3.x, provided it isn't buggy and awful (like TIM Italy's 4.2.1 was for the Pearl way back when ... ugh).
