From the description it looks essentially like the functionality/features of the curve but on the Pearl form factor? This could be the killer phone for folks who only have infrequent need for email functions, don't want the "bloat" of full qwerty keyboard, and like larger keys for what they use most - the phone.

I have called as well as asked several different in store sales people at AT&T/Cingular, no one knows anything about a new Pearl. They checked their inside post boards, and nothing. Heck, several asked me what was going to be different about the new phone. Ever since At&T took over Cingular, it seems to be mass confusion there...I want cingular back!!!!

Just got off the phone with my AT&T Enterprise sales rep. She says that they just checked, and the phone is "in our labs for testing to determine if it's a viable product for us to release. If it proves to be, expect to see it sometime in Q2 2008."

It adds an external media card slot, OS 4.3 (which will be available on the 8100 in a few months anyhow), video recording, a 2MP camera (a la Curve), more durability and better build, wi-fi capabilities, etc. If you aren't interested in any of that, then there's no real reason to upgrade ...just wait it out until the 3G BB a few months after.

We'll see the 8120 stateside in Q1.

AT&T is already selling the new Pearl 8120. My company ordered one for me. They already sent the 8100 but once we found out they have the new one, we canceled the order and requested the new one. We do have a business account if that makes a difference.

I'm logged in to AT&T Premier right now and it's not listed. I'll check our corporate purchasing portal tomorrow to see if there's anything different listed in there, although it's rare that it differs from Premier in product, aside from pricing.

I hope they are sending the right model. Is 8120 the right model number for Pearl 2?

Question

Could someone confirm that AT&T is selling BlackBerry 8120 through corporate purchasing? Even though I was told it's available, I'm concerned that the AT&T person didn't know what they are talking about and sending something else...

I looked earlier and it was not in our list for ordering. I'd say this is likely a case of someone not knowing what they're talking about.

Sorry, folks but jibi is correct. We called AT&T again today and they said it's not available.
