Hi,

Would you please give me an idea how to control from the BES the size and type of attachments sent and received through Blackberry terminals?

Regards,

Longman

The system is BES for Exchange, version 4.1.X

I was able to find how to limit the size of the attachment files ("Controlling attachment file sizes to minimize conversion resource requirements" from the sysadmin guide), still I couldn't find how to control the allowed type of attachments, for example do not allow .mp3 etc. Please help.

Regards,

Longman

You'd have to block these on the messaging server (which would then impact the mailbox) ... while you can configure the BES to have the ability to render attachments you don't use it to block delivery of certain types to HHs ... you could configure it to block all attachments.

You can deselect the distiller for the specific attachments you don't want on the handhelds.

This is under BlackBerry Server Configuration, the Attachment Server tab.

Select Attachment Server from the dropdown box. At the bottom you will see the listed distillers. Uncheck the one for MP3 and any other you don't want.

They will still get it on their mailbox, but the handheld will not recognize the attachment and there would be no option to open it.
